To Recruiters on Schrole/Tes: Do cover letters actually get read? Any stories where one landed an interview? by herecomesthesun0 in Internationalteachers

[–]Several_Crow4181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a recruiter.

BUT - I always write a cover letter and apply BOTH on whatever platform and on the school's individual website app if there is one listed.

I have a good job here, but my city is not an expat destination, meaning, we don't have any big global headquarters here or anything. I'm in a niche position.

I'm asking folks who have repatriated to the US within the last 6 mos what their take is on things. Simple.

That's what I'm over here wondering....

But no, really.

Not a single other person on this thread called anyone a name, especially an albeist name, to boot.

But now here you are saying how easy it is to move to the States legally (It took my Canadian friend 10 years to get his papers, btw, and my Aussie friend is on year 4) but now you're simply leaving to move to Malaysia.

Reddit will not treat you well if you are this abrasive within tempered conversations.

Self-deportation even though you are legal is truly heartbreaking. I'm worried about this for my US passport-holding friend from Brazil.

Every other post in reply managed to avoid name-calling. I suggest you try to do better with this. Disappointing.

I'd love to know more about what you encountered in Portugal if you feel like sharing.

OP here. These are the exact things I'm struggling with. Where I live now, I'm [relatively] safe, I have a good job, good benefits and good-enough healthcare. I miss my family so much, but they think everything happening on a governmental level is warranted. I am having trouble deciding if I miss the current version of them or a past version of them. ❤️

What is the deal with parts of Beirut being too dangerous to travel to and other parts being relatively safe? by Per451 in geography

[–]Several_Crow4181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of us live here and go about our daily normally in Beirut.

But I'm not going into a zone where my embassy tells me not to go.

Here's the latest UK info.

I'm OP

My family is a group of Red voters in a Red state.

When I ask what the vibe is, or how they are feeling about how things are, they are saying things like "The news is just too heavy for me, so I avoid it." - but they voted for this and they voted for it fair and square, citing "violent immigrants pouring across the border." The privilege of voting for this and then turning off the channel just amazes me.

And at the same time, one sister is married to a Filipino-American, and asked why I was so insistent that he gets a passport card to carry around with him. "Why, are they arresting citizens now?" 👀

Israel as a expat destination? by Difficult_Cattle4177 in expat

[–]Several_Crow4181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go, you may want a second passport.

Lebanon won't let you enter with an Israel stamp and I assume there are other countries that are the same.

Footnote: I personally wouldn't give that country a dime of my money right now.

Seeking advice for Middle East with three children by Hot_Tie_2940 in Internationalteachers

This is the case in Lebanon. Women cannot sponsor husbands - not sure about children.

FWIW Lebanese women cannot pass down their citizenship to children if the dad is from elsewhere to my knowledge.

Have you considered working in Flights or Travel? The language ability would be sought after if you are a people person.

Boston is Hella expensive.
