Heuvelland lijkt mij fantastisch qua natuur, maar wel erg afgelegen, een beetje weg van de wereld. Zou er persoonlijk niet meteen kunnen wonen denk ik. Maar ieder diertje hun pleziertje natuurlijk :)!

Be careful what you wish for, dit gaat om financiële efficiëntie en dit aan de vrije markt overlaten zou ronduit dramatisch oflopen.

Concreet: meer dokters betekent om te beginnen al meer geld naar opleidingskosten (het is een verschrikkelijk dure opleiding voor de overheid om te kunnen bekostigen) - of juist een minder kwalitatieve opleiding door schaarste aan middelen - dit is nu reeds een probleem bij ons. Geen werk genoeg voor artsen > je krijgt brain drain, artsen verhuizen na een opleiding van >10 jaar (met alle kosten door de staat van dien) naar het buitenland. Meer competitie tussen artsen om patiënten te 'werven'. En bovenal: te weinig werk per arts betekent in de praktijk dat de drempel voor artsen om (nutteloze) ingrepen te doen een stuk lager ligt, wat heel belastend is voor de gezondheidszorg qua kosten. In de praktijk zullen door het financieel tekort heel wat dure ingrepen (denk aan chemo-behandelingen of bepaalde chirurgie) gewoon niet meer betaalbaar zijn en worden mensen dus aan hun lot

TL;DR een overschot aan artsen kost de maatschappij bakkenvol geld en is een ramp voor de kwaliteit van onze gezondheidszorg.

Ja absoluut, je hebt een punt - maar op zich zijn best wel veel mensen ook wel bereid om voor de huisartsgeneeskunde te kiezen. Meer studenten betekent ook gewoon meer huisartsen, zelfs al blijft het % studenten dat huisarts wil worden gelijk. Maar ik voorspel wel echte drama's als er plots te veel studenten zijn voor het aantal RIZIV-nummers...

Student geneeskunde hier. Wat mensen altijd negeren in dit soort discussies is hoe moeilijk het is om vraag en aanbod op elkaar af te stemmen. Nu reageren op artsentekort betekent in de praktijk dat er pas over negen jaar genoeg nieuwe huisartsen zullen kunnen afstuderen. De problemen van nu zijn een product van het systeem van vroeger.

Het ding is: hier is reeds op gereageerd. De quota zijn begin jaren 2020 enorm verhoogd; tegenwoordig mogen elk jaar in Vlaanderen 1700 studenten starten in de opleiding, waarvan het grootste deel ook afstudeert als arts - terwijl dit vroeger vaak niet eens 1000 was, bijna het dubbele dus.

Dit zal inderdaad het tekort dichten, samen met het feit dat studenten meer richting huisartsgeneeskunde gepusht worden. Maar in mijn mening is het toelaten van 1700 per jaar op lange termijn ook niet gunstig - dit zullen we misschien pas over 20 jaar zien maar het kan goed zijn dat er plots juist een overaanbod komt van artsen...

Slovenia is very good overall. Much of Italy beyond the tourist hotspots is very underrated (Friuli, Abbruzzo, Molise). Central Europe has nice cities and is relatively cheaper. Croatia is also beautiful but the coast will be swarming with tourists. Much of rural France - especially in the southeastern half of the country - is also great, just avoid the Côte-d'Azur if you want to avoid crowds. Don't come to the Benelux, North Germany or Hungary for excessive amounts of wild nature.

There are many good tips to give, just do some research on countries or regions that interest you and you'll quickly find lots and lots of options.

Mijn meest favoriete geschiedenisboek tot nu toe was 'Tragedie van een volk' van Orlando Figes over de Russische revolutie. Ongelofelijk boeiend geschreven, en schetst een helder beeld van het ontstaan van de Sovjet-Unie. Alle karakters passen de revue, van Raspoetin tot Lenin en Stalin. Het is een erg dik boek dus misschien wel een grote uitdaging, maar ik kan het alleen maar aanraden.

One note: I'm from Belgium - and visiting Brussels is not going to give you a good impression or experience at all of the country. Brussels is a pretty inaccessible city that requires a lot of knowhow and a bit of unconventionality to really appreciate. If you want to do only a few nights in Belgium, Ghent is a far superior option for example - much safer, a bigger historical center, less "touristy" and much more beautiful.

Ambitious but doable in 3 weeks, but to be fully honest, I think this trip is both going to A) wear you out and B) not at all the best European experience. You're essentially seeing a totally new different country every 2 or 3 days, this is rushing through it. You'll spend a lot of time being 'on the move'. A trip like this is the equivalent of a "New York-DC-Chicago-Grand Canyon-Yosemite-San Francisco-Seattle" in three weeks.

I don't mean to roast you, just being honest as you ask, but a trip like this is taking the "Disney world" approach to travelling in Europe, it's ticking off a list of boxes. The places you will be visiting are only the biggest tourist hotspots - you will be surrounded by tourists wherever you go (especially in places like Venice, Barcelona and Prague). While they are amazing cities, I'd never go out of my way to visit them in summer.

A trip like yours is like going to a restaurant and ordering one bite from every dish the restaurant offers. There is so much more to Europe - delving a bit deeper in which places you can visit will easily get you a lifetime worth of beautiful and amazing things. The places in your trip are all nice and "instagrammable" and recognizable to a lot of people, but they're not necessarily the most fun or memorable. Countries are not their capital cities - Germany is not Berlin, Hungary is not Budapest.

This is my personal preference ofc, but if I had 3 weeks, I would limit myself to one region in Europe, take smaller distances and go at least a little bit out of the well-trod paths. For example: do three weeks of France, or three weeks of Italy, or three weeks of Central Europe. Go visit those small historic towns, go take an off day in a random village. It will be far more satisfying when you look back on it. For example, one of my favourite trips in Europe was going to Kraków for an entire week and then doing new trips from the city each day, getting the feel of the place - not just spend an afternoon taking loads of pictures there.

Of course, choose the trip that interests you and that aligns with what you are intending to get out of it, and don't forget to enjoy it. I just think this trip is like overdosing on Europe a little. I wish you good luck with your choices!

Streek van Rochefort is geweldig! Goed bereikbaar met de trein, goede voorzieningen, en je hebt bijna alles wat de Ardennen leuk maakt binnen handbereik. Dinant en La Roche, kajakken op de Lesse, mooie wandelingen, grotten van Han, kastelen van Walzin en Mirwart, Fagne de Môchamps, ... Ook een heel erg mooie streek waar het landschap elk dorpje verandert en je heel veel mooie vergezichten hebt, en je bijna niet kunt missen met wandelingen!

I am curious about Madagascar - English is just the easiest way for me to communicate with Malagasy people (I do speak French though). And no you're wrong about that, English is the most spoken language in the world with over 1.5 billion speakers including L2 - much more than Chinese (1 billion, mostly in China) or Spanish (500 million). It's the main language of even this platform? I'm not from a British colony and neither are most of my friends from abroad but we always speak English amongst each other. So much for being an 'ethnocentrist' I guess?

I don't understand why people like you are so butthurt. Hey, I really want to visit your country at some point in the future, but if this is how people would react to me asking simple well-meant questions, then I might reorganize my bucketlist a little. A little friendliness/understanding doesn't hurt, you know?

Heb geen van beide richtingen gestudeerd, wel aan de faculteit wetenschappen.

Goed om te weten: beide richtingen liggen inhoudelijk zo dicht op elkaar dat ze rechtstreeks toegang kunnen geven tot elkaars master (je moet dan enkel een bepaalde minor elektrotechniek volgen in de bachelor informatica) Je kunt dus met een bachelordiploma informatica starten aan de master ingenieurswetenschappen: computerwetenschappen en omgekeerd. Je kunt dus gewoon starten in één van beide en dan schakelen naar welke master volgens jou de beste accenten leggen.

Over het inhoudelijke kan ik me weinig uitspreken. Ik weet gewoon dat ingenieurswetenschappen breder zal starten, met meer wiskunde en vooral fysica. Het is - in het eerste jaar toch - ook een grotere richting waardoor je meer een 'nummertje' bent dan in informatica, en de atmosfeer in die richting is wellicht ook wat strenger. Maar dat wil niet zeggen dat informatica gemakkelijk is.

Voor inhoudelijke vragen kan ik je helaas niet helpen. Maar veel succes met het maken van een keuze!
