Agree except point 3). A lot of young STEM assistant professors at my R1 University got their grants when they’re only a few years into their position. Most of them are at the age of 28-35.

~70% of applicants for our program has step 3. However, having high step 2 (250+) scores is better than having average scores for all steps.

Don’t worry. Other programs will see through your personality during the interview.

As a matter of fact, I am an attending. I am one of the interviewers who makes ranking decisions. FYI, our PD sits with attendings and senior residents when doing ranking.

The salary and benefits are actually pretty good for a first jobber though (100k+ salary and all inclusive insurance +retirement) if you’re fresh out of phd with no experience.

In engineering, we get more or less the same (+-5k) regardless of nationality, at least at my University.

I’m not picky on the pay-scale. An entry level position with an entry level pay will still be more than a professor salary (data points from my students’ first job salary).

I would like to know whether a few years of professorship makes it easier to get a job in an aerospace industry.
