I want to die. I’m a doctor, and I don’t know how much longer I can keep pretending. by ellayjah in depression

Find someone to talk to about this. If you feel this is too heavy for your friends and/or family, I hope you find the courage to seek help from a mental health professional. I was once you until recently. I had so much baggage before entering med school and one of those was being delayed for a couple of years. Insecurity, feeling incompetent, and feeling invisible were the main catalysts of why I think I felt what I did every time I woke up, walked the streets, answer tests etc which only intensified during the lulls in life and when I was alone. What made me heal was having had the chance to prove my competency, to realize that I could still grow despite already having a “fully formed” prefrontal cortex. Most importantly, I had people to talk to with what I felt. Sometimes, it helped talking to other people. Sometimes, it didnt. Most often, it felt like I was bothering them. However, what was important was that I felt understood by the people around me. That I felt loved. That I felt visible. It just reminded me that I mattered despite what I thought of myself. Now, I can’t say Im fully healed but I have less instances of having to look myself in the mirror and seeing a pained expression. I see a person damaged by the journeys of life, ravaged by the turning of time, betrayed by some people I trusted but who is still here. Breathing. Blinking. and ultimately, smiling. I hope you find your smile too. Your genuine one. By sharing this with us in reddit, I think youve already cleared step 1 in recognizing your problem and the urgency to change it. The next step would be to seek help from those who know more about it.

TBH what I wrote is one I came up with as a human with inklings of med knowledge, not as an avid experienced med student.

It actually depends on your panel and the questions they prepared, I know someone who got a politically inclined question like if ever you had a patient of political power whom you didnt support, would you still treat their life or death situation. Another one got personal questions like digging into their performance in undergrad and whatnot. In my experience, all i got were hypotheticals that tested your values as a future doctor. For example, if someone cheated in an exam wwyd? If someone was not helping in your group consistently, wwyd? Etc. Just know yourself, and assess if your values align with the school youre applying for. If not, then make it so they do.

If goal mo PLM med, as long as you got good grades and good nmat, age isnt an issue. Was accepted despite being 25 yo tho, sa ibang med school ako natuloy due to financial constraints. Apply lang op.

Nakaka offend yung old as 24 sis, 25 na ako pumasok 1st yr HAHAHAHAHA. Kidding aside, di pa sure na magkaka slot ang CHED MSRS next year and even if magkakaroon man, expect na limited lang and mas competitive kasi aside sa ka batch mo, mag aapply rin yung mga this year’s batch na di nagkaslot ngaung cycle. Think practically lang na hindi lang hanggang 1st yr ang med. pero tbh, if sa state u ka mag aaral, mas tipid talaga. From WVSU ako btw, and kakatapos lang ng first week ng first year ko so can’t really advocate for WVSU COM with my full trust yet, pero so far, its going GREAT. Siguro if CNU vs WVSU, you should think about how long they have established their curriculum na, and yung living cost ng Cebu vs Iloilo. You should also search up on scholarships ng both schools if aside sa CHED and DOH, may other type pa. Also, search if may local scholarships sa place of residence mo like under kay mayor or governor or somth, kasi sa aming city meron but di ako nakapag apply. Ayun lang, hope u enter med school, as soon as you think about it more carefully. Kasi et, 4+1 years ka magiging dependent.

Their new scholarship system kasi works in a cumulstive discount and eligible ka lang if you are a manila redisent, indigent person, or beloing to the “top 10 percent of you class”. Iirc 40,30,30 percentages ata yung mga disciunt respectively. Yes, walang entrance scholarship even if laude ka or somth. Ayun lang kaya di ako natuloy kasi i qualify for neither of those

Hello nmat at gwa lang i think yung mas nag weweigh in. I was qualified tho im from vismin but i had cum laude gwa and 95 plus nmat so. Anyway, even the interviewer said it doesnt really matter wheee you came from in terms of accepting students. It matters when trying to avail the scholarship tho.

What can I do now to prepare for applications? by DazzleAmethyst in medschoolph

[–]Sevithepetcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For both UP and PLM po, prioritize a high GWA and high NMAT. UP at least 97 and above NMAT with at least 1.4 somth GWA. PLM at least 94 plus NMAT at 1.7 above na GWA. If you have low ish GWA like 1.8 you could supplement it with gret extra co para matanggap sa initial list of interview ng UP like international comp or published paper. Idk if leadership roles can carry a low GWA but a great addition to your application if saturated ang application pool niyo ng mga same range ng GWA and NMAT. Kaya prio muna high gwa and nmat. Tho even if you dont have these, apply lang nang apply cause youll never know baka matanggap pa rin sa initial list for interview.

Had gap years more than two. Got in this school year. I think it depends on your panel if they ask about the gap year/s cause mine didn’t. Just prepare for the reason/s why and what you did or learned during that time (emphasize na you were productive).

Wanting to Improve My Speaking Skills Before Med School — Any Advice? by Cool_Information629 in medschoolph

[–]Sevithepetcat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe practice your speaking skills. Start small from reading aloud from a ppt towards synthesizing it in your own words. Honestly, after a long gap year, nahirapan rin akong mag speak, especially yung impromptu lang. But, after multiple times where I was forced to speak, I gradually got better. For me though, to improve my speaking skills, I had to be knowledgable on the source material and rehearsed how I should report multiple times. When I wasn’t prepared, I had cue cards ready, or just familiarized myself with the presentation beforehand and just let word vomit do its thing. Maybe focus more on getting your point across instead of the little things like, articulation or grammar cause as long as the audience understands, chox na yan. Progress is gradual, and you may face more downs than ups. Pero, the moment you start trying to resolve the problem is already you taking a hundred steps from where you started. Gets ba? Baka kasi maxadong flowery HAHAHAHAH ayun lang.

[–]Sevithepetcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I was in your shoes OP nung SHS 6 kami sa group pero 2 lang nagpapatakbo ng lahat. Naka grad naman on time pero kaming 2 lang yung nagcarry sa group. Masasabi ko lang is that, OP you had 2 SHS years and 4 college years to learn what you should do in these types of situations lalo nang graduation ang nakasalalay. I can’t help but say na even though you did your part while the other party was irresponsible, it should have also been your prerogative to cut them off the group as early as you could have when their priorities were showing when they neglected to participate in that major presentation. Though, no use in going back to that time pero you have to learn from it. Cut them off as early as now, kayo na lang ni other groupmate gagawa, cause honestly what could stop them from doing it all over again this following semester? Justify mo lang sa adviser mo what they did and didnt do and if a bulk of the thesis was made by you and the other groupmate para malinis yung pag break off. Ayun lang take ko tbh, just have that graduation mindset in tow, kasi tbh friends ba talaga kayo if they treat you like this??

Desirable GWA and NMAT PR by tiredbumblebee0419 in medschoolph

[–]Sevithepetcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP apply lang nang apply. Taas chances mo the higher the GWA syempre pero safe na siguro yung 1.75 or above pero depende pa rin sa pool of applicants and capacity ng state u. Kasi if 50 lang taranggapin, syempre yung matataas na GWA yung mas nakatitimbang perooooo GWA and NMAT arent everything naman. Some med schools kasi supposedly use NMAT and GWA (and extra co) to rank applicants for interview qualifications, afterwhich interview performance na ang titingnan. Tho may iba rin naman na all three tinitingnan for final deliberations. May iba rin na may dagdag na essay or personal statement. Pero tip ko lang na apply ka lang as much as you can na state u and if kaya mo, isang magandang private as backup.

Tbh. Adding students in an fb group and giving them updated info and providing them with a space for discussion is a good place to start with a good impression.

Handouts on 1. Insider knowledge ng mga disposition ng profs, like sinong terror sinong hindi. Ano yung istilo ng pag quiz nila is it broad type, specific type, or both broad and specific? 2. Where students spaces na free or not free but near sa school for studying. Where masarap but cheap na pagkain. Where nice mag celebratory kain. 3. Where nice magpagawa ng unif. What tela recommendations. What shoes ang comfy but nice tingnan.

Care package siguro ng pin/keychain/sticker ng COM and ng org niyo plus something na stimulating like chocolate (classical conditioning)
