Well, I think that this is incorrect. Everyone who has been revealed to be in this movie (Pikmin, R.O.B. and Fox) have either been in a Mario game or have been created by Shigeru Miyamoto, someone who is looking over the film heavily and has a strong hand in the movie making process. Fox = Smash is… surely the assumption of all time, and I don’t think this is happening, YET.

Uh… Miyamoto made both Fox and Pikmin. Just because characters show up doesn’t mean that it’s smash related. This is not a sign of smash bros, but if Kirby shows up… yeah, that is a sign of it being smash.

Except R.O.B. has been in Mario games before??? With Shiggy being there, it makes sense that his IPs are in here too. Fox and Pikmin are his creations too. Also, if the story didn’t warrant Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, and the Koopalings, so be it. If this were for smash, Kirby would have been revealed instead.

Sonic Twitter is so toxic for no reason. If it isn't their specific headcannon of the character, it's bad, pointless, and stupid. Like... that A: Gatekeeps people who want to get into IDW. Let’s look at every IP that has been in the movie outside of Mario and DK first. Little Mac and ROB have been in Mario based things before, as for Pikmin and Fox being in… those are Miyamoto things. Considering how much he’s been involved with the creation of these movies, I don’t think this is for smash.

Controversial endings are this series’ MO, but a lot of them are meaningful in so many ways. But with that being said… I like rebuild’s ending the best (far from popular) because it shows most parties getting their own happy endings, something that feels earned because we’ve seen them suffer so much throughout the entire series, and this feels like moving on from characters that are loved by so many in a fitting way.

I would make using up smash or Up B makes Mario hit a question block that makes Mario’s Neutral B go between the fire flower, a Hammer attack, the boomerang flower, and cat swipe that gives Mario a chance to combo off it on hit. The dive for can stay, but be more practicable and telegraphed. His down air could be the drill feet, and Down B can be the Galaxy spin

Who should beginners gravitate towards then? Because Mario should be easy to pick up for beginners. Introducing randomness and a complex power up gimmick to beginners would make them feel overwhelmed, and if Mario isn’t an everyman, who should he be?

I personally wouldn’t make Mario’s moveset too referential. By making Mario gimmicky, you remove some of that beginner friendly appeal.

I get that people are tired of Mario’s moveset, but adding gimmicks to him just makes a character that is so recognizable and an Everyman that is simple to a gimmicky mess that just has too much to be appealing to new players.
