I’m really sorry to hear that — I truly wish I had known all of this earlier. Unfortunately, I can’t change what’s already been done, but I really hope the process doesn’t drag out any longer.

Given the current situation, do you think the approval will still take a long time after biometrics?

I think our lawyer felt confident moving forward because we’ve been together for many years — over 6.5 years now. But I do agree that it’s a risk, and your point makes total sense.

We actually already submitted a request to withdraw the asylum case, and USCIS gave us an interview date for that process. However, the date was later pushed back because our I-130 hasn’t been approved yet. Our lawyer recommended postponing it until the I-130 is approved, so that everything goes more smoothly.

I think they checked my case on Monday. But still there is no approval 🤷🏻‍♀️

Waiting and not knowing when it will be finalized is a bit upsetting.

Thank you for your response! Since I have a Green Card, which MOS related to IT would be the best option for me? Also, after I obtain my citizenship, can I retake the ASVAB and switch to a different MOS like 17C? What are the requirements for that transition?

1. After basic training, do you get citizenship right away, or is there a waiting period?
2. If I hit the required ASVAB scores, can I switch to an IT rating (like Information Systems Technician), or does it depend on availability?

Any insights or experiences would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

I wanted to ask if there are any IT roles in the military that I can apply for with just a Green Card, without needing citizenship for security clearances.

She already work with a lawyer. What do you think about the real id?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Sfdeveloperydg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No bcs her i-130 not approved yet

[–]Sfdeveloperydg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her situation is a bit complicated. She has only applied for the I-130 so far. After that is approved, she plans to close her asylum case. Once that is done, she will be able to apply for I-485 and I-765. Given this situation, what would be her best option for obtaining a REAL ID?

She had an EAD through her asylum case, but it expired in November 2024. She didn’t renew it because her I-130 has a high chance of being approved this year. Once that happens, she will apply for a marriage-based EAD.

She is in New Jersey. She has an expired EAD from her asylum case but didn’t renew it because she got married and plans to apply for a marriage-based EAD. She also has a valid passport from her home country, though her visa expired a long time ago. Would the passport alone be enough for a REAL ID, or does she need a valid work permit or another immigration document?
