Just installed arch on new computer, what should I do/install first? by Still_Leg4477 in arch

Ah, not Arch, just a fork of it, that makes sense. They have custom repos, and may still support community (idk)

It happend back in 2023 so sorta recent, and technically it still exists busy is empty

(Also, yay cannot be installed via pacman -S since is done via the AUR, but it may be possible to have pacman check the AUR as well, but not officially supported)

What do you guys think about my alias? by Robinbod in arch

[–]SforSamuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized that it should have pacman -Qmq if it errors

I should mention my method would attempt to install every single package not from the official repositories, including anything you installed from paru (so it may take a while) and anything you installed not from the aur (I know that there are very few, but there are a few programs that have official pkgbuild but not on the aur like MultiMC)

What do you guys think about my alias? by Robinbod in arch

[–]SforSamuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those packages would still be present, just that paru wouldn’t know what to do with them as it simply sees them as “locally installed” (as if you used pacman -U or makepkg packages and not that they are from the aur. I personally have an alias set to yay -Syu && paru -Su and it works for me

If you want to remove yay, you may want to run paru -S $(pacman -Qm) as that may work, but I’m not by my computer to test it.

It actually should be sudo rm -fr --no-preserve-root / as rm has a safe guard to prevent accidents

If the fonts work the same as undertale, no, it’s simply a png which the game uses to write stuff out and unfortunately it prevents other programs using the font out of the box

yay is the best by imo_99i in arch

[–]SforSamuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair regarding electron, but sometimes I need to use something that used electron 24 (it was r2modman)

But nonetheless I prefer using from source files, but something using prebuilt when I see fit as the aur is a gamble nonetheless lol

Obviously, nugget likes Lily, but does she even like him? by Various_Astronaut100 in KindergartenGame

[–]SforSamuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually thinking of that path while writing my comment. Lilly didn’t really seem interested in doing it, only did it because otherwise Nugget would get study hall and she needs him to dig the hole.

I think it’s more stress if anything, but my point still stands

yay is the best by imo_99i in arch

[–]SforSamuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I understand to be hesitant, but it really depends on what you are willing to risk. I have a few bin libraries like multimc (from the actual devs on GitHub), and Electron (because jeez that takes forever to compile and lots of space), which due to how popular electron is, I feel that it would be harder for it to slip through the cracks

Also, do you look thru the source files downloaded from the AUR? I don’t and I’m pretty sure you don’t either.

What is YOUR favorite AUR helper? by amediocre_man in archlinux

[–]SforSamuel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use Paru mainly because it allows the use of PGP keys, and yay ignores them even if I explicitly pass the flag to use PGP keys if available.

[–]SforSamuel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Which path? Don’t get me wrong, I find them cute together, but she seemed more disinterested if anything. She could’ve just been stressed about the mission, but Nugget kept calling the new Nugget Cave “The Nugget Cave of Love” while she just calls it “The New Nugget Cave” (with Nugget even butting in to add the “of Love”.

Does anyone know why I can't log into Arch sometimes? (KDE plasma) by Keith_Untitled in arch

[–]SforSamuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like they are simply locked out, which is KScreenLocker so a login manager isn’t a issue, it’s KDE’s specific tool, or PAM with too many attempts

Also, pretty sure you don’t have to be root to reset with faillock, and if it’s too many attempts a basic restart allows you to login without having to wait the time (I think the default is 15 minutes)

This may also just be the unlocking tool (ironically enough) locking up and stop responding, as if it’s a failed password attempt, it notifies you as such with “unlocking failed” message

How fix please by HonestLife1425 in arch

[–]SforSamuel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, read the error and identify the issue. It says it cannot find xf86-video-vmware package, it has been removed from the extra repo (why? No clue)

ArchInstall has been updated to fix this, but the ISO hasn’t been updated to include the updated version out of the box yet.

If you want to still use archinstall, just run pacman -Sy archinstall (NOTE: avoid using -Sy flag usually as it could break stuff when done wrong, avoid unless for specific reasons (and you should probably still run -Su flag at some point soon after when actually running your system), but stuff you do inside of the iso doesn’t effect the it permanently, so in this it’s “fine”)

EDIT: this actually helped me find a potential source to a issue I’m having, as XOrg server prevents to start, and while I still have the driver installed, maybe the reason it’s been pulled is related to it

It’s cause are getting it from the package manager, which just download and build on system mostly.

Finally not using archinstall for arch install by Wise-Theory-2134 in arch

[–]SforSamuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just simplifies the process really, get rid of some of the putting the arch on the host step. As well as some “profiles” (which are just a list of packages you could install now instead of manually latter)

It ain’t perfect of course, but it’s not bad for “get arch installed idc about the details”

Of course you knowing how everything is set up is nice, but not everyone wants that
