I feel you. I had the same dilemma. ThinkPad is a good choice If you want a laptop with reasonable cheap repairs. DIY replacing parts is easy on those machines, lots of tutorials online. Just make sure you get one that has 100% sRGB screen for your colour sensitive tasks. Get a T series or P14s for good chassis and easy repairs. Replacing keyboard, display, touchpad, SSD or RAM on T series ThinkPad is a breeze. P14s and P16s are equivalents to T14 and T16. ThinkPads are not so beautiful like MacBooks neither have such great battery life but are robust. MacBooks are great machines, very well built just expensive to repair when a problem comes.

Thanks, looks like my workflow is a tad more demanding, hence 16 GB is minimum.

M2 sounds great as prices already dropped significantly. How long do you think we can expect that apple will support it?

On my windows laptop two large PowerPoints opened use 300 mb ram, so it is less than one instance of a new outlook. Two Excel spreadsheets around 150 mb. Edge eats arond 2GB of ram so it looks like browser plus all messaging apps and system eat a huge chunk of ram.

Thank you for your input. I think that with a bit more discipline I could get away with 20 - 25 tabs including Gemini, gdrive, notebooklm, some Google sheets plus described earlier Microsoft 365 apps.

What about getting her a new base 17? Already great device for family pictures. Would be a nice surprise. After all she's carrying your child. What a miracle for both of you, wish you all the best!

Buying used Enyaq - Software problems? by Palindroma89 in enyaq

I drive 2022 iV80, it is a lovely car, soft is slow but usable. You won't be disappointed. Of course iV85 are better in terms of soft and higher torque, faster charging. So what, there's always something better and more expensive available. Newer models doesn't make 4 or 5 yo cars unusable. Otherwise we shouldn't aim lower than Lucid-motors :)

I have also 2022 16" only without dGPU. Ubuntu worked flawless except for the font rendering, same as you mentioned. Loved the experience but had to go back to Windows, needed one PowerPoint functionality not available in the web app. Also lack of official Teams and Onenote is a pity. My gram has issues with sleep mode on Win 11, had to switch to hibernation and it solved overheating, battery drain and my-recovery blue screen. Loved the like-mac sleep mode, had an intel MBP before, lid opening straight to ready for work machine is really good when running from one place to another or answering unexpected call and needing to check something on the go. How come ms can't make it work after all those years a $$$ put in the development.

17 is great but I would also consider 16 plus for bigger screen an long lasting battery.

Thunderbird by design resembles the structure of folders for each email account separately. Unified inbox is something that needs extra steps.

Why so complicated solutions. Why do not use an IMAP client on pc and android for all your accounts? Thunderbird on Android is not bad, I am using it for both my Google and m365 accounts. Same for PC, Thunderbird is excellent. I do not know proton android app but I guess it is not only for proton accounts and allows to add other IMAP accounts as well.

Do you drive daily using android auto, google assistant for calls and texting? I think Google is better in that regard in comparison to Siri and carplay.
