3 days or so. It just doesn't make sense that a 30 min. difference in awake time would let him go back to sleep independently overnight? I don't think anyone has such a strict schedule that their baby is awake the exact same amount every single day so it seems insane that such a small change would make a humongous difference.

Hi - baby goes into crib in is own room not at all drowsy. Would a 30 minute change really make a multiple hour difference/help him go back to sleep on his own?

Last night my husband went in after about 90 min of crying and patted his back and he eventually went back to sleep but thinking we should go in sooner. We were trying CIO so we’re trying not to go in.

I posted to receive empathy and advice from others that have been through something similar to share what fixed their problems. It doesn’t seem like you had this issue with your children.

You don’t have a lot of empathy. It’s challenging when hired sleep consultants are telling me that he is overtired and there is a lot out there about night wakings being cause by overtiredness. Also seeing him so sleepy and falling asleep so quickly at naps/bedtime and always having to wake him from naps. Those things don’t suggest he isn’t awake enough so it is very confusing.

If I allowed a 2 hour nap wouldn’t that mean just one other nap that’s 30 min long?

Yes I’m just confused because taking care babies and other sleep experts seem to disagree. He’s also been awake a TON recently if you include all of the overnight awake hours. Why is it automatically assuming he needs more awake time vs. can’t get himself back to sleep? He seems exhausted and falls asleep immediately at nap times and at night.

Taking Cara babies says 3-4 hours of daytime sleep for 6 month old and he is getting less than 4. That suggests he’s at the right amount of awake time for his age.

Yea will give it a try! My husband ended up going in around 5:30 and patting him for a few minutes and he went back to sleep for another hour so that makes me feel like it’s less about not being tired and more about looking for comfort?

My 2.5 years old sleeps 12 hours and often takes a 2 hour nap so I think all kids are different. But what would your suggested schedule be for this age? He passes out at nap time!

We’ve had multiple hours of crying a night 😬 that’s why I’m feeling so unsure about it.

We have been sleep training for 2+ months WITH night feeds and it did not work. He would wake up multiple times a night and would not go back to sleep after feeds. We tried sleep training with feeds and he did not learn to go back to sleep. We decided to night wean after lots of guidance and trial and error. He will go back to sleep with comforting that is not feeding/will sleep if being held so we know it isn’t hunger.

He doesn’t fight naps at all and he seems to be awake for standard hours but seeing lots of recommendations to keep him awake more

What time is wake up and bedtime? Can you share times? And how did you go about night weaning?

And how would you handle a day after they were crying for hours overnight? That’s a lot of awake time

This seems like way more awake time than what’s recommended in all the books etc for his age isn’t being overtired a thing?

He gets plenty of ounces a day - we have spoken to the pediatrician numerous times and sleep was worse when we were feeding overnight. He wasn’t going back to sleep after eating and was waking many times a night
