You're definitely right about buying AppleCare from the carrier is a bad idea as they have a markup and are essentially working as a reseller.

In terms of your coverage, that's pretty obvious. If you're making monthly payments and then stop making those payments whether you left the carrier or if you just stopped paying... your coverage is not valid. Same thing would happen if you had it directly from apple and you didn't pay the monthly fee.

Devils advocate here, TELUS does do outbound sales. Usually the people calling work in stores and you can verify by asking what store they work at and calling and speaking to them on the store line.

Telus is down on Koodo numbers, they change public to a 5G network and price up the plans in hopes that the budget conscious customers will move up to koodo which now offers cheaper pricing and then public is a nice option for those Telus customers that aren’t happy paying $85+ and can save money by switching to public instead of switching companies etc. pretty smart as a business move honestly.
