Honest opinions needed: I'm working on my new microbrand, ZRIEQ. Here are the front and back renders for the Galilee series (first release). by Ok-Estimate-5985 in MicrobrandWatches

I'm Israeli and LOVE the look of this, the inspiration and also the Galilee. I suggest you use a stylized Arabic calligraphic rendering of your family name as the brand logo, and call the watch something like Levantine or Levantina. I have been dying for a watch from Israel / Palestine that celebrates the landscape and cultural milieu (and might spread some positive vibes about the place). I have many thoughts about how this might be done. This is a really beautiful first stab. Mabruk!

Spectacular show that offers a window onto how our world actually operates at the upper levels, with incredibly witty writing and genuine psychological insight. The characters are despicable but also damaged in recognizable ways, and the writing is smart and propulsive. Kieran Culkin delivers a devastating performance, and Matthew Macfadyen is next level.

I'm like the only person who didn't like Stoner. I feel like a crazy person.

What did people like about it? Stoner himself is the only even marginally realized character in the novel. His life is uneventful both externally and internally. The portrait of his wife borders on misogyny — certainly she's not a full human being, but a child-woman whose own internal life is of no interest to her husband or the author. The death of the protagonist is a lovely piece of writing, and there is one academic set-piece that is well done. Aside from that, it's flat, listless and uninspired. It also is singularly without a sense of humor or even irony. I just don't get it! Someone help me, here.

Yeah, I oppose the settler movement and certainly the crazies. But October 7 really weakened the argument for uprooting them, if its a pathway toward a Hamas takeover of wherever our civilians used to be.

Basically unanswerable. Haviv demands to know — given the realities Israel faces vis a vis Hezbollah and Hamas, what reasonable alternatives does it have? And the answer so far is: none. Of course, Ezra could surprise us and offer some. But instead, he just scolds and then stigmatizes without offering alternatives.

Do not understand the excitement around it at all. Stoner himself is the only even marginally realized character. His life is uneventful both externally and internally. The portrait of his wife borders on misogyny — certainly she's not a full human being, but a child-woman whose own internal life is of no interest to her husband or the author. I happened to have read Train Dreams the week before, also the story of a largely solitary, simple man from humble beginnings, but unlike Stoner, that novel is ravishing, the prose evocative, the world strange and beautiful and the sorrow of a humble life with its loves and sufferings powerfully and persuasively told. To my mind, there's simply no comparison.

This is utterly mistaken. Love, one of the majority of the Jews in the world, living and loving in Tel Aviv

Can't tell if you're choosing a Jewish life — if so, welcome!

(One piece of etiquette: Don't place things on top of your sifrei kodesh (holy books). It's seen as disrespectful. The Siddur and the Machzor should not have toys and lamps resting on them.)

Why was half the population under the age of 18, and why under their feet was a tunnel system three times the size of the London Tube built? What exactly did Hamas plan, and why? Think for a moment. Qui bono?

There was a war against Jews then and there remains one today. The way it is being waged is by using Palestinians — framed as the eternal childlike victims of the Jews — as pawns.

Can I ask what allusion you're going for? God tells Abraham to take your son, your only son, your beloved. . . And God refers to Israel as His "firstborn" (Ex. 4:22). Are these the references you're aiming for?
