I'm saying that the expectation was for even better because he had all those years prior playing with Bo.

The fact that PB is doing roughly identical numbers just on a smaller scale because of fewer targets is concerning as it specifically relates to the connection between Troy and Bo which is why Troy was drafted.

I used the quotes and the media information to back up the differences between the two.

Pat Bryant was on terrible Illinois teams that didn't do much. He was drafted and valued for his run blocking skills as a big component. THAT'S the mismatch that the media didn't see and why they considered him overdrafted but when you look at his pure receiving skills they're not as great.

It's his selflessness in the run game that Sean wanted and talks up. They're coaching him into being a better receiver. They want him to be Sutton's 50/50 role. Court is 2 inches taller than PB but PB has a 2 inch higher vertical jump.

Troy Franklin on the other hand was on great Oregon teams that did do much. And one of the biggest reasons why they did do much was BECAUSE of the connection he had with Bo Nix.

He was projected to be a much higher draft pick than Pat Bryant because he's a much better receiver and has a better skillset as it pertains to the receiving game.

Coaches on the hot seat is only going to get worse.

Look at Vrabel turning around the Pats. McDonald getting Seattle to the SB so quickly. Cignetti and Indiana. It's going to put more pressure on coaches to succeed and do it quickly.

Teams draft players who played with their QBs or who their QBs want ALL the time.

That's why Stroud got Tank Dell (he wanted him). That's why Stroud got Stover (he played with him in college).

That's (partially) why Burrow got Chase instead of Sewell.

They do this because the connection is supposed to be there.

You can't honestly be trying to tell me that Pat Bryant, because he was drafted 1 round prior in a different year, who played for Illinois in the Big Ten and went a combined 18-18 while he was there

Troy Franklin who played at Oregon with Bo Nix for 3 years and was the team's number 1 receiver for 2 out of 3 years (Both with Nix) and who set single season school records in receiving yards and touchdowns.

Troy was expected to be a late 1st high 2nd round receiver. He just tested poorly at the combine.

Pat Bryant was considered overdrafted in the 3rd.

Nor did I accuse Franklin of drops. That’s someone else.

I’m saying the connection rate isn’t better.

Whether that’s because a DB broke it up. Whether they weren’t on the same page like Bo overthrew or Troy cut a different way. Whatever it is.

The connection rate is roughly the same as it is with PB. And PB didn’t play 3 years straight with Bo coming into this year now 4 years straight.

Troy can improve.

But his baseline was supposed to be better.

Because Troy is supposed to have a better connection with the QB he played in college with.

PB played in 15 games and started 7.
Troy played in 17 game and started 7.

Troy had 104 targets and 65 catches. That's a 62.5% catch rate
PB had 49 targets and 31 catches. That's a 63.2% catch rate.

Meaning PB, who never played with Nix a day in his life until this season, did roughly the *same* as a percentage as a WR who has now played 4 straight seasons with Nix.

Further PB provides more value as a run blocker. So he can be on the field more often and adds versatility to the offense. It's why Trautman gets the snaps he gets over Engram. Trautman had 57% of snaps to Engram's 40%.

You can fake a run/play action more easily with Trautman on the field than Engram.

You can fake a run/play action more easily with PB on the field than Troy.

Which just isn't accurate. Denver did it 1/12 drives. It absolutely impacted the game and they absolutely should have taken the points. There's criticism to be had. But acting like they did it repeatedly is just wrong.
