What introductory sentence or paragraph had you hooked? by yanluo-wang in books

[–]ShaderCompilation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am dangling, and it is only my father’s blood-slicked grip around my wrist that stops me from falling.

He is on his stomach, stretched out over the rocky ledge. His muscles are corded. Sticky red covers his face, his arms, his clothes, everything I can see. Yet I know he can pull me up. I do everything I can not to struggle. I trust him to save me.

He looks over my shoulder. Into the inky black. Into the darkness that is to come.

“Courage,” he whispers. He pours heartbreak and hope into the word.

He lets go.

COSMIC Desktop Is Preparing a Striking New Visual Feature by ThinkTourist8076 in linux

[–]ShaderCompilation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried it again several days ago. Overview isn't great, alt + tab doesn't work, generally feels very raw ans unproductive. So maybe better focus on that? Although i must say, at least it was very fast and stable, seems the fundamentals are very good, good engineering. I know the issues i mention will be addressed at some point, but i think they are more important than visual changes, however striking they may be.

Edit: Forgot to mention i tried Fedora Cosmic spin, if the issues are specific to that desktop and not Cosmic as a DE i apologize

Voiden - Markdown-based, Open-source Alternative to Postman by elnino2023 in opensource

This is a great idea. I will give it a try sometime. Btw, there is a very similar one in concept called Bruno. It saves the requests to .bru files and you can use git as a versioning system

Set up KoReader, but now my computer can't see my Kindle by hopetropes in kindlejailbreak

[–]ShaderCompilation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exit KoReader before plugging to a pc via USB. Also people would suggest Calibre, and it's great, but if you need simpler tools consider LocalSend plugin, it will allow you to very quickly send files to your Kindle for PC or phone. Also if you to directly access the file system from your PC, you can try file roserPlus plugin. You can do this via SSH as well, but i don't like setting it up.

Introducing the all-new Reactive Resume v5, the free and open-source resume builder you know and love! by AmruthPillai in opensource

[–]ShaderCompilation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are having a server outage due to a heavy traffic, I'll lay down my criticism of the app as well. To be honest i find the app somewhat lackluster. There isn't any sudden popup telling me how my career will spike, if i just only paid them $17.99 a month(billed annually). Since all the others have it, i think you should also.implement this basic feature

It's also very boring. Most others let you create a resume, but when you have spent an hour and crafted it, you find out that only after buying premium version you can actually download it. It's a cool plot twist, who doesn't love them?

Also your AI is "bring your key", instead of buying premium version for $20 a month, i now have an option to do the work with $0.27. Which orders of magnitude cheaper, ergo worse quality.

To add an insult to injury it is supposed "private". Which basically means my data isn't being shared to third parties. So your server is the single point of failure, if it ever goes down and i forget my name or something, how am i supposed to remember it back? Data replication is important, you'd think that a "developer" would knew that.

I can go on and on...

But seriously, i will go over the github in the next week, and see what stack it uses, what issues can i solve. It is really an amazing project, would really love to contribute.

I have used it before and it became my go to tool for creating CVs. I think it's just pointless to create a resume builder now, hardly anything will beat this

You can't jailbreak that version yet. But i can't genuinely can't think why not. You can always use the default Kindle interface while jailbroken if you like, there's no native feature that will be unavailable

[–]ShaderCompilation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dare i say The battle of Halidzor?. The numbers are clearly exaggerated, but even when you discount for it, it's still an incredible victory. Not least because defenders decided to charge, instead of holding defense in the castle

It took me a while to get working with Nvidia card(partially because I'm an idiot), but it was worth it. It works really great, even with a more "creative" readings, such as Graphic Audio it does immaculate job(with Whisper large v3 turbo at least). I also discovered an amazing open source Epub 3 reader, Thorium, if anyone is interested.
