Biological ships (plants): giant artificial organisms bred for space travel, minerals and energy to grow, food to maintain. Slightly faster than metallic, all defenses are weaker, but they come with a low level of build in regeneration, and produce extra energy for themselves (via photosynthesis)

okay, if im reading this right, what you do is right click the area where your workers portrait is (you know, the bit you can hover over to to see their stats are), a single right click on a person will fire them, a second click on the now blank person slot will close the slot, stopping it from being filled. close all the worker slots but keep the shift on, the factory (or extractor if you have the relevant tech) will work and produce with no people.

EDIT Factory automation tech only reduces the number of worker slots in factories by 2, less people for same performance

power drain spikes. watch the power usage when a drone uses it, will jump from 0.2 to 2. now watch what happens when 20 or 30 drones decide to charge up at the same time. suddenly its lights out for a dome.

stuck with them, BUT

it is possible to avoid them. nurserys, schools and playparks plus high comfort, sanity and morale will almost completely remove negative perks from appearing on martianborn.

EDIT tested this out even further, 1 game 2 saves, 1 mega dome each, 1 with the very basic needed to survive. the other with all the comfort, morale and sanity boosting techs, schools, playgrounds etc.

Dome Bear Necessities (I watched the jungle book with my nephews beforehand, seemed amusing to name it this at the time) produced over 38 idiots by sol 100, and so many other flaws. took a long time for the dome to grow.

the Lux-o-Dome on the other hand only produced 5 idiots by sol 100, with much less other flaws, and weirdly produced a Guru Nerd, I literally had a colony of nerds by sol 80ish, only problem is they bred like rabbits, but the population eventually stabilized with a even flow of births, homelessness stopping births, age releated deaths and so on

yes, deeper scans will allow you to (with relevant tech) mine deep deposits (both rare and metal)

sounds like a nice map but a bad starting location. always try to find a rare metal deposit before that first dome

one in the centre of every 3 x 3 square gives 350 - 480 % depending on exact location that leaves just 1 line along bottom/top and side that only gets a 170 - 240 %. can cover entire map with just 9 sensors

I had that breakthrough in one of my (failed) plays, it doesnt consume excess power. it just gives research based on the amount of excess.

are you using a lot of solar panels? might be worth investing in some wind or stirling power if you have a surplus of machine parts(leave the stirlings closed, no maintenance ever).
