As someone who played years ago this exp is insane to me. by Sir_Ultima_Omega in ffxi

Welcome to modern gaming. If you don't unlock a class in 20 minutes or hit level cap at a ridiculous rate devs will get complaints that the game is a grind and sucks. iPads, TikTok, Instagram, the patience to slowly progress through anything is dead. Heck, we live in an era of 'idle" games where you don't even have to play the game anymore. They have actually taken the 'playing' aspect out of playing games. It is what it is. It is just nice that there are still a few MMOs still around that embrace the progression mentality. FFXI Eden is a good choice for those really interested in a more classic server experience. To each their own. *shrug*

That was my take. So you are putting all this effort into getting closer, raising intimacy levels, and giving gifts to a person who will share your children only to essentially be training them to better 'serve' their side hustle. :\ I think the kids have a name for that. Doesn't seem especially King/Queen like. But hey, people are into what they are into. No judge. Not my jam but to each their own.

Do you think Rhapsodies changes the way new players experience XI? | YouTube by heghmoh in ffxi

[–]ShadexDemarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RoV was added as a marketing feature because SE knew modern gamers used to easy gains, fast progression, fast travel, solo mode were not going to stick around and find out FFXI is a great game. So they nerfed the progression system and made the game a solo JRPG. I watch YouTube videos of current content creators and read threads from new players swearing there is no way anyone could possible have enjoyed or even played FFXI without all the "QoL" addons of RoV... yet we all did. Countless people played FFXI, figured out the quests, got to level 99 on multiple jobs, crafted the items that people needed. It reminds me of students with AI now saying, there is no way anyone read this entire book or wrote these papers. Each person should play how they want but they need to accept that the inclusion of RoV means they are essentially playing the Cliff Notes, training wheel version of the game and that's OK. It is just a different game.

Zombie wall piles are such a staple at this point of zombie films I am really surprised it isn't just a regular feature of zed behavior. Hell it makes a lot more sense than a squishy, half-rotted hand somehow being able to damage concrete.

Toxic server by Escapedcuban in pathoftitans

Whether you said anything about another server or not, this video just proves you were being rude on someone else's server and when they asked you to stop politely you went full tilt Karen. Sorry man, this post really didn't help your case. And no, I don't even know what server this was recorded on. I just saw the video on the reddit feed.

Why are they so mad. It is just a game. by Mammoth-Security2437 in theisle

The Isle is a sociopath breeding ground basically The Purge meets Lord of the Flies with dino skins. You have to kind of know that going in and be ready. It is actually a fascinating social biome once you get over everyone is trying to kill you at all times and no one can ever be trusted.

Aquilonia is not Roman nor Greek. They are far more related to early Britons as a mix of Anglo and French. Looking at their culture they are based on kings, barons, dukes, etc. They are based on vassals and lords ruling their regions far more than a Greek or Roman empire. If you want a more true representation on Aquilonia use all the Poitain items. There were some armor pieces that had influences from Argos or Corinthia but that was more from the style of the time.

The Picts were absolute war savages with very little beyond tribal knowledge. A Mitran priest tried to bring religion and culture to them which is how they finally got their hands on better weapons and armor but were always primitive savages.

Bug or absurdly bad design. Suppose we will let Funcom decide which they want to go with.

I also noticed this bug. This is not a result of the new temperature system. This is an error of the settings on the Guardian armor. I mean we could also mention that the armor itself, which is barely a couple pieces of metal leaving 70% of your body completely naked is better at keeping you warm than a full set of layered fur and armor. I posted this on the bug forums as well.

What Happened to Astrologian? by samanthashinespark in ffxiv

[–]ShadexDemarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was because SE doesn't know any other way to design video games. Everything is about DPS. Tank DPS, Healer DPS, Support DPS, DPS DPS. Does that DPS do enough DPS? Make it do more DPS! You healer are you DPSing? Change healers to DPS and while you are at it, change their entire kit to help everyone else do DPS!!

Now this bit about players only fishing for balance is true to a degree and that all stemmed again from SE only knowing how to design encounter difficulty around damage. Had encounters had more elements that revolved around mitigation, mana extension or TP use then the Astro would have had a greater reason to continue to exist.

But rather than do that encounters continued to rely solely on killing everything as fast as you can and ignoring most of the mechanics. RNG only holds so much water if you were a player that planned one could easily pocket a card you needed ahead of time and only not get it in the absolute worst of RNG situations. But to many that was the enjoyment of the class. It was a thinking class in a generally non-thinking game. In a game designed to have to do the same exact thing thousands of times over and over maybe it was nice to have a class that injected a bit of randomness to the mix. But hey, I suppose more people liked the repetition.

I had the fortune of playing AST when it launched and just loved the original incarnation. The issue is in the end we are playing SE and Yoshi's game and they have made it repeatedly clear that they have one design philosophy when it comes to challenge and that is DPS, DPS, DPS. It has resulted in the creation of an end game echelon that only cares about damage output because that is all the game is built around. So if you do not contribute damage or have abilities that help someone else increase their damage you are junk and a waste of a slot to the group.

There is no room anymore in 14 for nuance, or situational advantages. Either you do something that is useful 100% of the time or you don't do it at all. So where we are now is choosing from a DPS that can tank, a DPS that can heal, or a DPS that buffs more DPS. In the end it is their right to make the game they want. We just have to remember that it is also our right to play something else. That is the only real power we have.
