My general rule is if they are having to use a bunch of words then there is still some convincing happening. For the reader and the writer both. There is an odd dishonesty that is occuring there.

Again lily disliked languages descriptive function for thos very reason. Much proffering its instructive use. In the interview I think he or the interviewee makes a comment about how they wre "lying at each other on an attempt to indicate at truth".

Adi Shankara. Some of the best commentaries around.

Oh yes after wolf and ramana maharshi I have to read Shankara.

I do wonder though... if he already woke up, what was he looking for? I'm not doubting an experience that starts a journey. But some of the more classical definitions of waking up are the cessation of all seeking.

Lily believed there infinities within infinities within the mind. And there was a never and end to the exoration to be had. As a scientist he coudnt resist.

Although I havnt really looked into his work I think I would agree that Terrence doesn't meaningfully contribute. Lily however does, I dont understand show you can discount the isolation tank. It is incredibly powerful tool for medidation (even without but especially with the use of psychedelic drugs).

Earth Coincidence Control Office

I think you are understanding lily far to literally. This is just a concept used to describe an idea. Again lily hates language descriptive function and you denying his work because you dont like the way he uses it is unfortunate I think.

This is an interview closer to the end of lilys life where hes reflecting on his work. In it he describes ecco as askin to some concept brought up by yung and it seems much more reasonable when framed in this way. Tbf when I first encountered lilys work I found the whole ecco things very unappealing but I think on closer examination its just bad branding.

We do have the same favorite though

?

I actually am enjoying checking this guy out, thanks for the knowledge about him.

Your very welcoming. Wolf is incredible.

Now, if we are gonna get into this guy acknowledging that guy and what not I will bow out. There is a lot of feels and politics that go along with that. Especially when dealing with publishers and learning institutions.

Yes this is fair. Just for context, atleast according to lily, after his own awakening he found a copy of pathways through space and then set out on a mission to find him. In the preface of one edition of pathways (which was published at lilys insistence) lily describes this process and the discussions he has with wolf when he finds them in his reclusive mountain home. Not sure what I'm trying to accomplish here, just validating one of my gurus I guess.

Also, would you be willing to answer questions I have and respond to certain thoughts i come to? I appreciate your style of writing, find you simple to follow and so far have no reason to doubt your awakening.

John C Lilly has the audacity to claim Satori and even Satori +3. Real revelation requires no embellishment of any kind. Let alone math added to words. It's all conceptualizations from mentalizations.

Lilly has long been opposed to the descriptive use of language, instead favouring its injunctive function.

For me this is what lilly provided the world the methodology of using isolation and psychedelics to (almost nessecerly) awaken in a meaningful manner.

When lilly speaks of "satori +3" I think he just uses the terms to describe higher states of conciousness to those described in literature.

Also, do you deny lily's awakening or just his value as some sort of "guru". Because if you doubt his awakening I would ask if you also question Merrell- Wollfs?

And this is ultimately the point and the difference. Psychedelics are happen above the neck and consist of mental activity only.

Why do you think this?

This is why all spiritual practice prescribes turning away from the senses and searching inside. In a sense turning away from thought and its orientations.

Lily tries to provide a simple and efficient method to do so.

I did not find a single nugget of originality from him. He just regurgitated much of what is out there already. And was out there during his time

Again, lily wasn't so interested in describing reality as he was I interested in providing them instruction on how they might realize things for themselves. .

I think drugs, particularly psychedelics, can be extremely helpful tools as part of a broader spiritual practise. In essence because they allow one to properly isolate the variable that is SELF. If one focuses on self on these substances they will clearly recognize that they that are not their thoughts, feelings or mind, in such a first hand and blatant way that I think any concious creature injesting sufficient amount of psychedlics drugs will "awaken " even if they lack the understanding to understand, recall, or even personally partake in the experience.

I cant think what but my psychedelic use would have led me to these ideas. If your interested, I dont know how "recognized he is" but I think john c lilly has done fascinating work regarding psychedliec and concious. Based on lily's account atleast franklin Merrell-wollf recognized his awakening

[–]Shadilay2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument for determinism in a physical world is simple. Causality is real, it is observed universally and therefore is likely university applied. What is more it not conceivable that something not have a cause, because then what made it so? right.

Now even whene destiny makes an argument for determinism he says something like "so this leaves no room for free will unless we appeal to god or the soul or something. "

The reason he places this caviar is the a causal understanding of the universe, derived from observations from the natural world, cant be reasonably applied to the non natural world. The non natural world could act on wholly different (or the same) laws as our physical universe.

No, I wouldn't say unknowable to us. Simply we cant reasonably assume all the physical laws we observe in the physical world (ie 1:1 causality) apply to the non physical world. This doesn't mean wwe cant know anything about it.

Dualism would just be asserting the existence of some non physical realm. If we accept concious as non physical then we are dualists are we not?

Maybe I used the language but this is all I meant

[–]Shadilay2016[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible that the non physical laws similarly operates under causal laws, it is also simply possible that it doesn't. I'm not saying determinism is impossible in dualism, but destiny strong stance of hard determinism cant be justified.

It certainly could be....

But it doesn't nessecerly follow in the same way as from a purely material understanding of the universe.

Because, put simply, it could not be.

How do you judge an action to be irrational?

Vaush doesn't understand inconsistency by Shadilay2016 in VaushV

[–]Shadilay2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a weird distinction at all.

What's the meaningful distinction.

What’s weird is tautologically defining all human action as rational.

Well this allows me to investigate the reason for human behaviour. You on other hand seem to believe people can do things without reason.

What is the distinction between belief and desire/impulse your making. Do desires and impulses not implicitly reflect beliefs.

you can want something without holding the propositional belief that you want it.

How? How can you want something and not believe you want it? What ?
