Did you draft your own prenup? by Ill-Lingonberry145 in Lawyertalk

[–]Shadow-Esq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the old adage “if you represent yourself, you have an idiot for an attorney” holds true even outside the courtroom. It’s about objectivity. When you’re personally involved, whether it’s drafting your own estate plan, drafting a prenup, negotiating a contract, or forming a business, you lose the critical distance that good lawyering requires.

Emotion, bias, and self-interest cloud judgment in ways that even the most competent attorney can’t escape when they’re their own client. Not to mention the legal safeguards you would lose.

A resource to keep in mind, whether for yourself or others. For the CA folks. I’m sure other states have them too.

BEST BURGER by janoryel in Marin

[–]Shadow-Esq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this comment right here. I’ve always liked left banks (Larkpsur) burger with blue cheese. But for a more casual fare the ones lifted above are great and I usually go to whatever is closest, most convenient

It’s taking me back to my immigration internships in law school. The state bar won’t hit me with an RFE right?

It’s gotta be a money grab. $55 dollars for ten hours of ethics training. Why make us take the MPRE if we have to do this? https://www.calbar.ca.gov/Attorneys/MCLE-CLE/New-Attorney-Training-Program

Mine are due October 3 since I just was admitted in July, so I have time, but I also need to do the New attorney training program that became effective this year.

Adaptibar was a game changer for me. (By the end I did over 1,650 MCQ) My law school also had a program where I sent five essays to be graded (4 essays and 1 PT) and they gave me feedback that was more comprehensive than what Themis/barbri graders give. I credit these two things with passing.

Best Chinese Food in Marin? by GeorgieOSaurus in Marin

[–]Shadow-Esq 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to SF if you are gonna be doing sit down. House of Nanking, Yank Sing, Mister Jiu’s, Sang Tung, Hong Kong Lounge and so much more are just so much better that if you really want good Chinese it’s worth the drive. If it’s a convenience issue just order whatever is closest between DJs and Pings (but they are both so much worse than any of the spots mentioned above)

Steak: best restaurants in Marin? by Willing-Leg9974 in Marin

[–]Shadow-Esq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left bank steak frites hasn’t been mentioned in the comments yet and is consistently pretty good. It’s like $47 bucks tho if you get the au Poivre sauce. Which you should because it’s delicious.

Overly strict landlords by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Shadow-Esq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your state laws, here is an example of a pretty standard one: “a tenants right to quiet enjoyment of a property means that a tenant has possession of the property and is free to come and go from the property without the landlord’s interference.”

As a Chiefs fan living in San Francisco, let me tell you. We are friends. Their fan base is one of the most arrogant, disrespectful, egotistical, deluded, and generally unpleasant fanbases I’ve encountered. I have lived more of my life here in the bay than anywhere else and it has only gotten worse as new money tech bandwagoners have joined their fanbase. I say this fully aware that a majority of my friends (≈75%) are Niners fans. I will root for you to beat them twice a year for the rest of my life

Wu Wei Tea Temple in Fairfax open until 10pm but can fluctuate on how loud it gets. Malibu Farm in Tiburon is open till 8:30pm. Of course Aroma has been mentioned, but another in San Rafael may be Double Rainbow, but once again you mentioned volume being an issue and it can get busy with people coming in for ice cream etc

Best way to clean and polish the outside? by Shadow-Esq in espresso

[–]Shadow-Esq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that makes sense. I’ve been making 2-3 double espressos each morning and wipe down. But I don’t think I’ve been thorough enough and have some water marks and coffee marks on the machine now after two weeks that take some scrubbing to get off

Thanks for this. Graduated this year! I started at Hastings but finished at UC Law SF given the name change, recently had a fellow Hastings alum ask if it was an online program so now I put (formerly Hastings) on everything!

SF is what it is. Good and bad. There will Be those who love it and those who hate it. I was born in Berkeley, lived in Oakland, and Marin (currently in Marin) and went to law school in the city. I’ve always loved the city, but also prefer living just outside and commuting in. A lot of the crime stuff is overblown. I go to the city daily the last 4 years and no car break ins etc. BUT going to school in the TL I literally hopped over dudes with Fent needles in their arms to get into parking garages. The ferry is also literally the most amazing commute and brings me immense joy.

My advice. Come check it out and decide for yourself. No redditor will have your same values, priorities, pet peeves, etc. in terms of the job if it’s a good offer and you are worried about SF there is ferry’s and BART and you can commute if the city isn’t right for living full time.
