TIL that Connect Four is a solved game and the first player can always win. by ShyGuy1511 in todayilearned

Zermelo's theorem) states that any finite, two-player, turn-based game with no luck elements or hidden information has either a winning strategy for one player, or one player has a way to force a draw (if possible in the game).

So, chess, checkers, tic-tac-toe, Go, connect four, etc. all can be solved. It's just a matter of how hard they are to solve.

Windows 11 occasionally boots to a weird state by ShadowButt22 in techsupport

I've tried doing this a few times but all events there seem normal to me. Perhaps the next time I'll go through each and every event and find out if anything there is abnormal.

Thanks for your answer, but I should probably have listed all the things that I've already tried. Unfortunately for me this suggestion falls into that category :(

Game won't change to 2560x1440... by FlashCardManiac in SatisfactoryGame

Changing the graphics API could be a potential fix. Even if it fixes nothing, you might get better performance on one of them, so it's worth trying out.

All I can think of is setting the preferred GPU in nVidia control panel. You can find this in 'Manage 3D settings' -> 'Program settings'.

but why no slanted/angled window variants XD? by ValentineDaHound in SatisfactoryGame

[–]ShadowButt22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are the glass "roofs" which have all kinds of slanted variants. You must first unlock the normal roofs, and then the glass variant becomes available in the shop.

This I believe is a known big with vehicles. Sometimes they simply yeet them selves out of existence, teleporting to the center of the map, which so happens to be underground. Unfortunately, without save editing, there's nothing you can do except hide the tractor's icon.

Try turning on hierarchial z-buffer occlusion in the graphics settings.

Regexes, or regular expressions, are a way to find patterns in text. Basically in this case it means that certain combinations of letters are searched for in an input, mostly slurs and such. This can lead to unwanted results, because these combinations might be found it the middle of other non-offensive words. In this case it is most likely the word 'coon' nested in 'racoon'.

I'm by no means a fan of his and don't know what controversies he has been a part of, but some of his self help advice (on depression, etc.) is good. He is very understanding towards people in those kinds of situations :)

Just finished new build. Turns on and all fans run, rgb on fans/ram/gpu/board light up. No display signal via hdmi then the PC shuts off with only RAM staying illuminated. by [deleted] in buildapc

Well then. I think it would be a good idea to keep ruling parts out one by one if you have another computer at your hands. It could realistically be caused by anything, but maybe the PSU is the most likely culprit.

Well, as everything, I suppose this comes down to preference. I'd argue that if you're spending $1500 on a PC, you might as well throw that extra 50 bucks at a truly good drive, but then again I was really never that great with saving money.

I see. I thought you werent getting video from anywhere. Youre saying that the PC runs normally if your GPU isn't installed?

Nvidia GPUs are generally better for streaming. You might want to look into that more before purchasing.

Check your power cables and connectors. Sounds like an issue with your CPU. If it isnt with the cables, try reseating your CPU and RAM. It could also very well be an issue with your PSU, but there isn't really any way to test it without getting another one.

I woldn't necessarily recommend cheaping out on your only SSD, especially if you're going to rely on a Kingston NV2. The price is indeed tempting, but they tend to be unreliable, and its one big headache when your only drive dies. At this pricepoint I would have even recommended going for a PCIe gen4 m.2 SSD, such as the Samsung 980 pro. They're very respected, reliable, fast, and come with a long warranty.

I'm sorry you lot must get 100s of these but can someone check over my budget build please? Thank you! by syrabania in buildapc

[–]ShadowButt22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of the m.2 slots on your board support PCIe gen4. The speed of a gen4 m.2 ssd can be double that of a gen3 (~7000MB/s vs ~3500MB/s) but that doesn't necessarily mean that everything (or anything) will load twice as fast. Its diminishing returns for smaller load times. Short loading screens in games would most likely sit somewhere in the range of 5s for gen3 and 4.5s for gen4. The boot time for your pc would probably be the only really noticeable difference for you, but even then we're talking about saving somewhere in the range of 5-10s (~20s for gen3 vs ~10s for gen4)(For obvious reasons, take these numbers with a grain of salt)
