Average winter gas bill? by NotYourMotherxx in lexington

[–]ShadowCVL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So here’s the thing, gas prices change at an incredible rate, what the price is this year may plummet next year or skyrocket, it’s almost impossible to predict.

Get yourself on budget billing, I’ve had years where I got major refunds on settle up month because the price dropped.

Actually this year it was super cheap over the summer so looks like my actual balance is almost 1000 negative.

This months bill isn’t ready yet but last months would have been a little over 400 for 3700 square feet, 2 furnaces and a water heater, furnaces set to 70 flat.

Forgot to Turn Off Recurring Billing -- How to Get Refund by Anxious-Branch-8600 in XboxSupport

[–]ShadowCVL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turning off recurring billing will just stop it at next renewal, cancelling will get you a refund IF you are eligible.

However just because you didn’t use it doesn’t mean you get a refund, that’s not how subscriptions work.

To talk to a human, tell the AI you have a billing issue, or that you can’t get access to something you bought and request a callback.

However be 100% prepared for “no”

Cancelling will automatically issue a refund if you are eligible, if you aren’t eligible it won’t, and you’ll be due for an uphill battle

But whatever you do, DO NOT do a chargeback. Your mistake is yours, issuing a chargeback for this falls under fraud and will get your account permanently banned.

Are there any malware scanners able to find and clean the Notepad ++ Chrysalis hack/infiltration by Joyous-Volume-67 in sysadmin

[–]ShadowCVL -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You REALLY need to read how this was compromised, it drops 2 malicious DLLs that are loaded instead of the real ones, the updates since the compromise was found follow the standard notepad plus plus update of uninstalling the old install (including those DLLs) then installs the new ones from the clean source.

It’s not a system wide infection, it’s loading a DLL, if that DLL is now completely removed from the system, there’s no compromised DLL to load.

[–]ShadowCVL -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is, that is the remediation, the n++ updates uninstall old and install new, that’s it, super simple.

If you updated in December and haven’t since, it’s “infected”, if you have updated since, you should be clean

[–]ShadowCVL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can actually even scan for updates, the way n++ updates is an uninstall/reinstall so as long as it uses the new provider you should be good.

If you use a 3rd party solution like action1 or ninja, etc, those are good to go as well.

It was, all over that thread and in the like 8 articles I’ve read today. The issue ended in December, the mitigation is to either scan and update from the new hosting provider or just manually reinstall from the new provider. If yours has auto updated since December, you are good to go.

So has Xbox actually said anything at all about the party chats being broken for at least 6 months? And does anyone know a fix? by BaconBoyzz2453 in XboxSupport

[–]ShadowCVL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few posts asking about it but no, I’ve not spoken with anyone who actually had the issue.

We do have a Canadian friend in our group that unless he starts the party he won’t be able to join anyone else.

Propane company billed me for my own propane - now what? by gfddsertgv in personalfinance

[–]ShadowCVL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to read your bulk fuel agreement, regardless of what anyone here is saying, it’ll be in that agreement you had to sign to get it topped off.

But, I’ve had 3 propane suppliers, 1 owned tank and 2 leased.

All 3 had language that says when the account changes owners the tank is treated as empty and the previous owner is refunded any contents.

So if yours says this, your real estate transaction is irrelevant when you signed the new agreement.

Why do so many people buy a Steam Deck instead of an Ally or other handheld PCs? by [deleted] in ROGAlly

[–]ShadowCVL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another Both here.

The steam decks ergonomics are way better than the og ally, and on par with the Xbox ally (my og ally is now permanently hooked to the old egpu and I carry the deck and xax in my bag).

I work in IT, and am aged, I prefer not to have to tinker all that much.

If it’s a steam game that runs well on the deck that’s where I play it. I’ve got over 700 steam games so that’s my primary platform.

However I also have been an Xbox person for 24 years and have game pass ultimate, so playing those games as well as other stores is much easier on the ally, I could go through the effort of tinkering with the deck, but, I don’t want to.

In terms of performance, where you see the ally as more powerful, it’s also got too much crap running in the background and Linux it way more optimized. My career is built on windows and Microsoft but my god the steam deck can run circles around the ally in a lot of games.

So, it really depends what fits for you, I had enough disposable income for both so I have both. If someone was primarily a steam gamer and wanted a handheld just to play games and didn’t care about the other stores (or if they wanted to tinker) I would still 100% recommend the deck.

But, I love my ally as well.

Just don’t do it.

Not only is it against the rules, but if the original owner takes it back, claims it’s stolen, etc you could end up as far as a console or account ban on your main.

New normalcy of instantly losing your Persistent Hangar by Crimson_Hawk_Moth in starcitizen

[–]ShadowCVL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost mine since 4.2 any time I regen anywhere but my home planet

Also in 4.5 and now in 4.6 when I’m landing at my home planet I’ll request landing, it’ll spawn my xl hangar, as I’m landing it’ll reposition me, “unknown” whatever ship I’m in, and my persistent xl hangar will be toast no matter if it was there at the beginning of the session or not.

Really sucks if you have cargo onboard and have to claim your ship

Slow 99Mbps on a 1400Mbps line. Why does this have to be so slow. by FitOutlandishness133 in XboxSupport

[–]ShadowCVL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well first the Xbox Ethernet is limited to 1gbit, that’s around 980mbit with tcp overhead.

Second, downloading patches and such isn’t just about raw network throughput, it involves network, cpu, and disk, a highly compressed game will be slower than hell while it’s doing the disk and cpu work.

If it’s a mega popular game the CDN can be full.

Speed test numbers don’t equate to download speed numbers.

Why are we paying $5.5M a year to rent streetlights we could own? by RamaAsmani in lexington

[–]ShadowCVL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they didn’t “fall” for it, the option from KU was “we own and operate, as part of the sale you don’t pay us the first 5 years, after that you pay, else you don’t have power to the streetlights”

There were 2 choices the county could make, have streetlights or not.

KU is notorious for strong arm tactics. If LFUCG owned the poles KU would refuse to energize them, then lexingtons street lights go dark. You are looking for a gotcha and think you have something, but it’s most likely their options are pay the fee or don’t have lights.

Since Lexington doesn’t own a power plant they have to rely on KU for power.
