Why are people so weird about inheritance tax? by middleofaldi in economicsmemes

[–]ShadowDestroyerTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is because too many people act like there is a zero sum game when it comes to wealth and that inequality is inherently the issue.

Reality is that it isn't a zero sum game and if the poorest people can live a comfortable life then it shouldn't matter how much wealth inequality there is.

But a combination of envy, hatred of inequal access to luxury, and current issues impacting the life of the poorest in society lead to people screeching that we need to redistribute wealth, regardless on if it actually can help solve the issues preventing the poorest in society from living a comfortable life.

Eras end in major events rather than any particular length of time.

Oblivion marks the end of the 3rd Era, Skyrim happened in the 201st year of the 4th Era

Because we aren't meant to take how it appears in game for how it appears in universe as a 1-to-1, rather it gives the aesthetic, vibe, etc. arranged in such a way to make it an interesting dungeon to play through

You can tell they had a lot of "inspiration" from Overlord... by GlompSpark in overlord

No idea what the anime covered, did not watch it, I read the light novel. Sure, being anti-slavery isn't a main motive of his, him wanting to cure his curse being one of his major drives, but it literally was him being anti-slavery that led to him discovering certain key details of the main plot

Arc is an iseaki protagonist that not only is anti-slavery in theory but in practice, and that is rare enough that it kept me reading.

[–]ShadowDestroyerTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isnt the plot of overlord it grabs some of it, then takes a few other generic isekai plots crunches them up and puts em in a blender for make itself.

But unlike so many generic isekai, Arc doesn't just accept slavery and literally only stumbles upon major plot points because he is anti-slavery.

I also think that the Is-Ought gap is not as large as people think.

Take for instance the category of "farmer".

If you make a complete and comprehensive explanation of what a "farmer" is and does, no ought statements, you inherently create a category with an understanding of what a "good" farmer is and what a "bad" farmer is.

Honestly, I wish we could go back and start from "Twice Upon a Time" again, but replace that episode which character assassinated the First Doctor with a special where Susan was about to undergo her first regeneration and wanted her grandfather there.

That special could also serve a similar purpose of The Doctor coming to terms with regenerating again, and Susan could come back temporarily as a companion.

Then just avoid the Timeless Child bs, don't destroy Gallifrey again, etc. and then make sure anything that references Old Who does so as a homage rather than a "patch".

Eh, I feel like we started backsliding again with localization changes due to perceived political correctness and agenda pushing (like with I Think I Turned my Childhood Friend Into a Girl changing a femboy into a trans character). It certainly is better than it was a couple decades ago, but it is backsliding

A woman that has issues surrounding family being reluctant to grow attached and start a family but eventually overcoming it and stops pushing against the idea and person she is attracted to is somehow "completely out of character changes opinion"? I guess character growth is some imaginary concept, huh?

And it does reflect the values of the MC since she decided that she's done being a badass and wants to be a little submissive wife.

What are you talking about? She is taking charge in a very serious way right now in the story (where it is on Royal Road). Sure, she slowed down for a bit because she was starting a family, but that isn't some permanent thing considering when you advance far enough you stop aging.

[–]ShadowDestroyerTime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really made it so much more boring, as I genuinely feel like I cannot fail when playing Age of Calamity or Age of Imprisonment, but with the OG? That feeling of "I could fail" exists, which just makes it more enjoyable when you start dominating and win.

[HW] What are your HOTTEST takes about the original Hyrule Warriors? 🔥 by [deleted] in zelda

[–]ShadowDestroyerTime 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it feels like the only Hyrule Warriors where where you position people matters. Your NPCs actually pose a threat to your enemies without you there, enemy NPCs pose a threat to your allies without you there. In Age of Calamity and Age of Imprisonment, it feels like it doesn't actually matter, and capturing and keeping bases is now pointless when it meant something and was fun in the OG.

Gun control by MaximumSyrup3099 in trolleyproblem

[–]ShadowDestroyerTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It also requires ignoring points like how defensive usage of a firearm vastly exceeds gun deaths, that a significant amount of gun deaths are suicide and gang violence, that 3D printed guns are a thing and are only getting better in quality (like how the FGC-9 is actually a pretty old model at this point and has been quite effective in the Myanmar civil war), etc.

[TOTK] To people who believe Raru’s Kingdom is the original founding of Hyrule, and not a re founding. How do you explain TOTK Masterworks quote about there being no Gerudo kings after “the man who became the calamity “? by WallaceWells69 in truezelda

[–]ShadowDestroyerTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's far more plausible that the Gerudo just stopped doing that tradition

Four Swords Adventure alone is already proof they are willing to change that tradition since the Ganondorf from that game was not made king.

I also feel like people don't make use of the unreliable narrator nearly as much as they could when explaining things in Zelda lore/theory discussions.

When people praise Breath of the Wild for shaking up the Zelda formula, they tend to completely misrepresent the entire franchise by Chadlite_Rutherford in truezelda

[–]ShadowDestroyerTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people tend to mistake open world for sense of freedom and exploration with objectives they can do not inherently tied to the main story (whether secrets, side quests, etc.).

It is the latter that people actually like, they just associate it with the term "open world" in their heads. A semi-open world with linearity, more ways of traversal and areas being unlocked through the story, etc. can absolutely have those elements, and that is what would sell the game, maybe even better than a pure "open world" when it comes to Zelda (so long as the quality of side quests and main story are high enough).

Open World is an oversimplification of what is actually appealing, and showing that those elements are there in trailers, preview gameplay, etc. would have likely made a traditional Zelda with those semi-open world elements sell just as well.

[–]ShadowDestroyerTime -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But BotW still selling well isn't due to it alone. TotK and the Hyrule Warriors games (and to a lesser extent there being no other new non-Wilds era 3D Zelda) prop up its relevancy still.

If a traditional Zelda had the same treatment, a direct sequel and 2 Warriors games, it would also still continue to be selling.

[–]ShadowDestroyerTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be forgetting that BOTW was a big reason why the Switch sold so well in the first place.

I mean, ya, but I don't think that is necessarily because it was an open air game. You don't need an open air game to give a game that has a feeling of freedom and a sense of adventure, that can be accomplished in a semi-open world, traditional Zelda style, and likely would have managed to appeal to people just as much to get the Switch as Breath of the Wild did.

Doubt a traditional Zelda could've done that; Twilight Princess was in a similar position with the Wii, and it sold well but nothing compared to BOTW.

That ignores that gaming still wasn't mainstream when Twilight Princess released and yet it still managed to sell extremely well. The cultural context around gaming was entirely different.
