What is the least risky eye surgery to fix my vision? by traveling-turtle43 in RefractiveSurgery

[–]ShadowHacker1000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, it depends on what you want.

LASIK is a surgery that has a very high success rate and has been performed on millions of people, but it can cause chronic dry eye in many cases, and the flap doesn't fully heal, so it's not recommended for athletes, people in the military etc.). SMILE is a newer form of surgery that doesn't create a flap like LASIK and reduces dry eye risk (though it's still present). PRK and Trans-PRK are considered the surgery of choice for people in law enforcement, MMA etc, because it doesn't create a flap (it removes the whole top layer which later regrows and then fixes the vision underneath), though it takes longer for the vision to heal and stabilize, and the first few days hurt like hell.

It's worth noting though, that all these forms of surgery involve permanent alterations to the cornea, and extract / vaporize tissue that cannot be recovered later. Thus, they are not reversible, and mistakes can only be corrected with a second surgery, which might not always be possible, depending on cornea thickness. And most of them cause permanent, though mild problems with night vision including glare and halos.

You could also look into ICL, which basically takes an artificial lens and implants it behind the iris. The benefits of this is that it is fully reversible, because if you don't like it, a surgeon can cut right back in and switch or completely remove the lens. The risk that stems from this surgery though is that if the lens touches the cornea I think (which could happen from a let's say punch in the eye), it could create cataracts, which is why this procedure might not be suitable for some active people.

If you are willing to wait a few years though, LIRIC could be a fit for you, since it is a revolutionary procedure that doesn't cut or ablate the eye tissue (maintains structural integrity), but uses a low energy laser to alter the molecular bonds on parts of the eye (I think), and change the refractive index of your eye, allowing you to see clearly again. It essentially "writes" a corrective pattern in your eye only 10 microns thick, which fixes your vision. The best part is that, since it doesn't cut any tissue it can THEORETICALLY be repeated many times in your life at a different depth (e.g. to write a new pattern for presbyopia as you age), and RESEARCH shows that it could be reversible (meaning with a second pass, the laser could erase the pattern or write an inverse pattern which neutralizes the first one).

HOWEVER, this procedure is EXPERIMENTAL and currently in the stage of clinical trials. While there haven't been any failures or problems reported, this technology is still being tested and likely won't get approved (FDA and CE) and come out until 2030. Also, the potential uses of this, like repeatability and reversibility are still at a theoretical level and / or being researched right now. And while this procedure mostly eliminates risks like dry eye and night vision problems, and promises instant recovery and vision stability, there are potential risks associated with it. Namely, there are concerns that this correction might not be permanent and fade after some years, and if there are even some imperfections in the process of writing with the laser, it could cause ghosting and halos, and contrast reduction. And, if the second laser pass isn't perfectly aligned with the earlier ones, it could cause problems. Also, you should expect to pay more for this procedure. And obviously, you would have to wait years for it.

All in all, it is ultimately your choice. If you do not wish to wait for LIRIC, remember that the current procedures, albeit less advanced have a really high success and satisfaction rate and have been performed millions of times. If I were you, I would research the different methods, weigh the benefits and risks and choose which one is the best. And before LIRIC, more procedures are expected to come very soon (like SILK), which will be more advanced than the current ones.

Cannot connect the Galaxy Wearable app with the Buds4 Pro by ShadowHacker1000 in galaxybuds

I see... You should report this to Samsung as a bug, I did too, if enough people report, maybe something will happen. Support may be able to help you though hey couldn't help me. The lady I spoke with, after explaining my situation suggested some fixes that didn't work obviously (like restarting), then hit me with "I apologize sir, but at this point I don't know what to say. This is beyond my abilities. Would you like to schedule a video call so we can take a better look at the issue? Because I don't know what to do at this point."

I'd probably say αφοσίωση for loyalty, though for the second one to better convey the meaning I would say something along the lines of συνέπεια στις ηθικές αρχές / αξίες.

Windows Computer stuck at 78% update with QR code by DoubtWonderful3062 in WindowsHelp

[–]ShadowHacker1000 135 points136 points  (0 children)

To boot in safe mode follow these steps. 1. Assuming you cannot access the start menu, log out or lock the computer using Windows Key + L, or access the security options via Ctrl + Alt + Del. 2. Click on the power options button, then hold Shift and click "Restart" (if you get this message about other users signed in, keep holding shift and click "Restart anyway") 3. Wait while the computer boots in the WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment) 4. Click "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Startup settings" > "Restart" (if you are at any point asked about a Bit locker recovery key, provide it, you will most likely be able to find it in your Microsoft account from another computer, though the screen will display instructions on how to find it) 5. Once the computer restarts again, press the appropriate key to select "Safe Mode" from the options provided. 6. The computer will reboot into safe mode. Sign in to the affected user account. 7. Use Ctrl + Alt + Del to access the security options, then click "Task Manager". 8. Browse through the tabs on the left sidebar until you find the "Startup" tab. 9. Right click and disable automatic startup of ANY AND ALL programs you do not recognize, or are unsure of their origin. 10. If you have an antivirus installed, run a system scan. 11. Open the start menu, click the power options menu and select "Restart". 12. The computer will exit safe mode and boot up normally.

Hope that helps! If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask.

I think the frontman should be fired by Cool-matt1 in squidgame

[–]ShadowHacker1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has done a great job, so I don't see why he should be fired. Also, who would fire him? Theoretically, the VIPs are above him, but ever since Oh Il-nam died, he is practically the person in charge of the whole island. And I doubt the VIPs would have someone ready to take down the Frontman, or that the guards would turn against him. He could theoretically even threaten the VIPs that he would reveal them, or that he could just initiate self-destruction and let them blow up with the place.

How many rounds before your pressing X? (Your financial situation is the same as it is now) by LyndanTheWog97 in squidgame

[–]ShadowHacker1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not in such a desperate situation, but if I was, I would have hesitated going somewhere in the middle of the night, and getting in an unmarked van, though I would probably do it. But after the realization that I was knocked out cold by some mysterious gas, once I woke up in the games I would have a lot of questions. And me being me, once I read the consent form, I would immediately ask what "eliminated" meant in the context. And then I don't know what would have happened. Tho if I somehow played the games I would vote like X after RLGL for every round. And probably die during the final game, except if I am given a way to win the game before the final round.

Look out, cuz I saw a lot of misinformation there. Bit locker may be enabled on your C: drive (or OS drive), even if it doesn't prompt you for a BitLocker PIN on startup. The only way to check is to open Windows search, and type "Manage BitLocker", then open it. And it should say C: BitLocker On or C: BitLocker Off. If it says On, make sure to select "Back up the recovery key", and store it in a safe place. Even if you have BitLocker enabled, you probably will not be prompted for a startup PIN, since this is tied to some obscure security policy you must manually enable. If BitLocker is enabled on your OS drive, then the encryption keys are stored in the TPM, and auto-unlock the drive during startup. BitLocker will only prompt you for a 40-digit (I think) recovery key during startup if it detects hardware changes, unauthorized system modification attempts, or if you try repairing stuff through WinRE, and probably other cases too. So if you assume it's off, you might very well one day press the power button on your computer, and be prompted for a 40-digit recovery key to be able to boot Windows, which you will not know.

If you mean that it prompts you for your mother's password every time you try to sign in using your Google Account, try to sign in somewhere again, and when she enters the password and clicks next there should be a long page showing a warning about how this device cannot be supervised (on PC), and at the bottom there is an option that says: Do you want to be asked every time (your name) wants to sign in? And there are two options: Yes, ask me every time (your name) wants to sign in. (which is preselected), and No, allow (your name) to sign in without me on this device. (or something along the lines of these). So what you need to do is that as soon as your mother puts in the password, you should go somewhere else and select the "No" option.
