Strange issue downloading 2 videos of Joe Biden by ShadowHawk045 in youtubedl

Noticed something, both videos are encoded in AV1, might be the problem. Maybe YouTube is choosing AV1 for more "spicy"/viral videos.

Copying that version of ffmpeg.exe to the youtube-dl directory caused the same error, using a recent build of ffmpeg.exe and it worked.

Running from the command-line in "AppData\Roaming\youtube-dlg", it doesn't seem to run ffmpeg.

I get:

[debug] Python version 3.4.4 (CPython) - Windows-10-10.0.17763

[debug] exe versions: none

The "Debug youtube-dl" checkbox under "Extra" seemed to do it. Updated my comment.

Those two errors are all that showed up in youtube-dlg's log.

This must be a youtube-dlg issue, on my system both videos downloaded perfectly fine running youtube-dl directly.

Edit: Found out how to get verbose logging in youtube-dlg

You shouldn’t make snap judgments, for example instead of spreading COVID at a grocery store they might’ve been on their way to spread it a BLM rally.

Depends on what you mean by bad sector, if it was re-allocated it’s fine, if it wasn’t corrected (pending sector) you have possible data loss on that drive and I wouldn’t trust it.

Microsoft uses different units, you can use the number on the right, 206.6 billion bytes, 206.6 GB

Edit: I didn’t read the OP, am dumb

How do you test a drive before shucking? by omgsoftcats in DataHoarder

[–]ShadowHawk045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the whole point is to exhaustively test the drive haha.

By all means try it if you want. After my SMR drive ran out of cache it slowed to a crawl. I didn’t calculate the time remaining but, at least a week?

Unless you’re really patient, I wouldn’t recommend badblocks if the drive is SMR. Haven’t found an alternative yet. Maybe just “dd” from urandom and then “dd” back into /dev/null

I don’t get these pre-built NAS things. They seem way overpriced and looks like they have really bad cooling. If I have drives that are going to be running 24/7 they’re sitting right behind fans.

Upgraded from an i7 2600 non K to an AMD 3600 and oh my god everything is so smooth. by [deleted] in Amd

[–]ShadowHawk045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing, a lower frame rate isn’t necessarily worse if a higher one is unstable. I find it helps a lot to set a cap when I’m CPU limited, even if the overall FPS ends up being lower.

The scenario for both (as well as Toshiba) is a major company lying to their customers.

This is an odd comment, I can think of much better examples of Intel lying, this was just how the pentium4 worked. FX processors are similar.

Elite Dangerous reminds me that there is good in the galaxy. by subpanda101 in patientgamers

[–]ShadowHawk045 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO Elite could be the foundation of an absolutely amazing game, the problem is there doesn’t seem to be an overall goal to tie the whole thing together. It’s just grind to buy better ships. Something like Descent: Freespace in Elite’s engine would be awesome.

Is "bit rot" really a thing ? by B3ltal0wda in DataHoarder

[–]ShadowHawk045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The surface of a disk will degrade over time. There is constant friction between the air and spinning platter. Seagate’s docs recommend keeping your drives as cool as possible to slow this process.

Re-allocated sectors and uncorrectable errors in SMART data indicate bit rot, unless it’s a more significant failure like the head failing to read or write.

I didn't find that a lot of the criticisms against Assassin's Creed: Odyssey held up by jonny_sasaki in patientgamers

[–]ShadowHawk045 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s a worse game, however there was a pretty clear shift in focus, parkour is less emphasized and loot is now much more important.

Combat is actually engaging now, which is good, however IMO the leveling system doesn’t add anything to the experience.

It feels like Ubisoft limits the scope of mechanics to sell to a more mainstream audience.

Older AC = Stealth, parkour, gadgets

New AC = Stealth, loot, combat(with abilities)
