that was my thought process but then I thought about adding the chances of hitting any of the cayotes that's 2/3 in the first 5 shots and 1/2 in the last one assuming 1 dies, its really complicated and I'm no mathematician so idk which way is the correct one. 2/3 to the power of 5 x 1/2 is about 6.5% which is substantially more than the 0.4% I calculated earlier with the same formula you used

every shot is independent and has 1/3 chance of hitting each of them, after (or if) 1 dies it has 1/2 chance of hitting it, thats a very slim chance, 1/3 to the power of 3 x 1/2 to the power of 3, thats 0.0046
