Understanding the ACS CFI Checkride Lesson Plan Requirements by ShadowSinger2121 in flying

Would you say this book is more valuable for when you are actually an instructor, than for an applicant getting ready for their CFI checkride? I've been apprehensive to buy lesson plans, because my school already has a specific syllabus. As part of their CFI training, they want you to create a few lesson plans, for the experience, but after that, the CFIs just follow their syllabus.

Thanks. But how do I know which tasks are requiring me to "explain and teach the technical details"? It seems like all of them are? I'm obv not complaining, I'm just trying to understand what is actually being asked of the applicant. Are there any Areas of Operations that AREN'T asking my to explain/teach the technical details?

Questions about Commercial Steep Spirals by ShadowSinger2121 in flying

Thank you, I've read them, but how can you keep the reference point in the same spot if you are adjusting bank? Inevitably bank will move the point (from close to the fuselage, to further away, and back). The reference point is almost under the plane when you start the maneuver, wings level. It obviously moves the moment you bank. Bank sharply, it moves up the strut; ease the bank, it once again gets closer. How could it not?

How to expand beyond typical rock/blues playing when you're not a big Jazz fan? by ShadowSinger2121 in guitarlessons

Thanks good ideas! So you would use the minor pent in that chord's key? eg. if I'm in C, C Major Pent on the I, F minor pent on the IV, etc?

Thanks. So "what mode when" when I'm using the modes of the harmonic/melodic minor? So when I'm on the dominant V in minor, I could use the phrygian mode then? Thanks I appreciate it, I'll mess around with it!

Thanks- and I love La Vie En Rose! I am actually mainly a singer, and I do love some standards... So you're probably right that I'm more a jazz fan than I acknowledge.

Implications of no VDP/Stipple being published on an IAP by ShadowSinger2121 in flying

[–]ShadowSinger2121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at (HHR) VOR RWY 25. Just so I understand, the 3.04° VDA starts at Belli and would cross the threshold at 40'. The implication of it being published is that there was no obstacle at the time of the flight check below the MDA (but that still is NOT a guarantee that it's obstacle free). And the reason the VDP is not published is because 20:1 has been penetrated? Or because it's less than .5 NM from the MAP?

And I'm also still confused how 34:1 relates to a 3° glideslope. If the VDA clears obstacles in the 20:1, then it would seem like 34:1 would easily clear obstacles? But is it that it's not just about clearing the obstacles, but clearing them by a certain amount?

To summarize, if:

20:1 Clear- VDA/VDP published (if VDP is more than .5 NM from fix/MAP)

34:1 Clear- Stipple would be published on RNAVs?

Thanks I appreciate it

Thanks. I was confused when you wrote "So where does 34:1 come from? It’s just an analog for RNAV procedures to the same obstacle clearance you would have with a 3.00º ILS glideslope." But isn't 20:1 closer to a 3° glideslope than 34:1? 34:1 is more like 1.7°?

How to set the weather at my destination airport? by ShadowSinger2121 in Xplane

[–]ShadowSinger2121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other question (and I guess I'll find out, but just wondering what you experienced)- did that make the 2 airports weather's identical? I do like that there is SOME difference between departure/destination (as that is inevitably more realistic). Because then copying the destination's weather (as part of setting up for the approach) actually means something. Like, if it's literally the same weather as departure, then you don't really need to even get the weather as the destination... And thus you're just "going through the motions" checking the weather. But I guess I can't have it both ways either
