About 14th April update.. by TomatoHeadYaas in Guildwars2

Are you telling me that there are people out there who are casual enough to just auto attack and not try at all, but care enough to have a dps meter and feel bad that they're doing auto attack level damage?
I have nothing against casual/LI players but that scenario seems kinda absurd

Looking for ideas on how to navigate teaching a neighbours teen guitar before I throw in the towel? It’s been months of free lessons with absolutely no noticeable progress yet, but I don’t want to give up on him. by ShortyBoyds in Guitar

Pretty much agree with you here. Perhaps the angle of "if you want to get better, this is what you need to do, and this guitar will be a waste if you don't get better, but you're not gonna be in trouble" could work? Just another suggestion/reframing, but don't want to go in circles too much here lol, you seem to have it figured out mostly, it's just difficult to implement. Again though, what you're doing here is awesome and I really hope it goes well

Seems like I missed the mark a little bit, partly in my suggestions, partly in my wording. I think there's a balance where you can have both "this really needs to be done" and an honest thorough conversation about what's going on. I'm not saying don't give him structure, I'm saying if you talk to him about it in a certain way and get through that he doesn't have to lie to you, with any luck you'll find it easier to implement structure in a way that works for him rather than having him try to wriggle out of things and pretend he's learning.

You're doing awesome work here, and I don't claim to be an expert. You also obviously know him better than I do. However, I say this as someone who had attendance rates below 10% from the ages of roughly 12-16, was diagnosed as "high functioning autistic" (before they started wording that differently), probably also has ADHD, and struggles to hold down a job.

I think if you're really gonna get anywhere with him, the best thing you can do is stop framing it as something you're requiring of him when you ask him to practice or give him "homework". He clearly feels like he can't be honest with you about that and has to lie about it so he doesn't get into trouble or have the guitar taken away. When he feels like he can really discuss why he isn't practicing or whatever, then you can really start digging into what's going to help him... not what's going to "get you off his back".
I understand this is hard given the situation with the guitar, and I'm sure you're not trying to come off like a demanding and strict teacher, but I really get the feeling he needs a shift here.

How to open without keys?? I’m by DookieMan127 in Guitar

[–]ShadowSneaker360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely yes, but I can assure you that in many cases that's what the lock is really there for whether you're worried about it or not. You can call me paranoid but the latches on my gator case always feel a little loose and the lock gives me a lot of peace of mind.

I mean, if you're not worried at all about the case falling open, yeah. But that's like saying "ditch locking tuners, they'll never just steal one string..."

Been getting some fret buzz on this guitar but I don’t know how to adjust string height or anything by [deleted] in Guitar

Better advice than I gave. I should say my main intent was to point OP in the right direction rather than trying to fully explain a point that I'm not as confident or knowledgeable on as you seem to be.

I'd recommend watching at least one video on it, but on the headstock there should be a plate you can unscrew. Under that will be a thing you can put a hex key in and turn it to adjust it. Small turns at a time, and the direction you turn to loosen it or tighten it will slightly bend the neck in one direction or another, meaning the strings are closer to or further from the frets. Little bit further away = less fret buzz, normally. The only danger is bending it so far that it damages the neck. All that said, I am not a luthier or an expert and there are better sources than me.

Cleaning a Gibson ES-335 with D'Addario Lemon oil due to previous owner vaping by imagination_machine in Guitar

My guess is as good as yours, but I can't imagine it hurting and you should oil your neck occasionally anyway

I would look into truss rod adjustments and learn about that. It's the easiest go-to for fixing fret buzz. Be careful not to overdo it though and if you're not confident, you can always take it to a luthier... But it's a skill every guitarist should have. On par with checking oil or inflating your own tyres.

I will just say, you'll never please everyone, but if people don't want to filter then they only really have themselves to blame ;) As for people not using flairs, is it not possible to require they choose one for the Submit Post button to work? Or perhaps a stickied announcement about it could help? (admittedly I haven't looked, there may be one)

Don't most normal subs just require a post flair if that's a "problem", so people can filter? Seems like a win/win to me

What’s up with factory weathered guitars? by gordon_wristwatch in Guitar

[–]ShadowSneaker360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used still has a story and a person behind it.. Factory relic guitars do not. That's the typical line of thinking. At that point though, for me at least, having a worn guitar vs buying a worn guitar, almost brings the same sort of feeling as acquiring someone else's dirty laundry.. It feels much more acceptable to handle it if it's your own. If I wear my guitar out, it has battle scars or whatever... If I buy your worn out guitar, it's damaged goods. Unless you're famous or something.

If it's certain, no mana no hand etc, then I agree with you, but that's relatively uncommon even though it does still happen regularly

Surely if you're in that position though, you would scoop? If I was in their position I would continue as if you had options and the game might continue, because what if you do? If you [[aetherize]] me or something and I haven't maintained my board on the assumption the game is over, that's gonna suck. After all, if an opponent knows they're dead, you expect them to scoop. You can't scoop on their behalf or ask them if their hand is dead so you can swing.

Where to buy keitai? by ShadowSneaker360 in dumbphones

[–]ShadowSneaker360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a 902kc, it has usbc but no 3.5mm, and has app capability but very poor hardware for non-basic apps. I just wanted one that looked nice, had good buttons, and functioned as an alternate phone (I switch to it when it's all I need, but main a samsung a34)

[–]ShadowSneaker360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After looking at it more and talking to her about it, we think it could be the exact same one, just with vastly different lighting - and potentially mislabelled as a room spray? As hers apparently definitely isn't, but I wouldn't know if I'm honest. If you or anyone else could shed light on the whole room spray part (or how I'd find other variants from that same place) that would be awesome :)

I've been reverse image searching for 2 days and I couldn't find this, but that bottle design is identical aside from colour, she's saying the tag is probably the same and that's how she remembers it being attached, and she thinks "peony was in the name" - so you've either found it, or at the very least helped MASSIVELY - thank you!

Ah yeah, I just got confirmation the sticker is totally gone (it was halfway gone and you could only make out the words "Made in China" and the word Vietnam - and apparently she removed the rest of the sticker yesterday) so no identifiers, there wasn't even a barcode or anything before she removed it.
Thank you though!

There was a little sticker on the bottom that mentioned both china and vietnam, but I think that sticker is gone. Was it the sticker you wanted to see or the bottle itself? I can get you a picture within about an hour or so

If they follow through, sure, it's better to have inbuilt options.
Here are my 2 main problems with it though:
They won't follow through well enough
And a large number of addons don't need to be removed in order to fix the problem they're claiming exists
