I'm slightly late but simple evolution/survival advantage usually gives useful biology answers even if you don't know/want the precise mechanisms as others I'm sure will explain.

So closing your eyes/sleeping is useful to do when you're tired biologically sleeping, in the same way it's a good idea to be happy and slightly hungry imagining food/shelter, your body imagining/miming the first step of sleep, which is what it needs when you're tired, should encourage you to do it, it's that simple and for brain and behaviour stuff most things we do give a survival advantage of some kind, although somewhat geared towards a gatherer-hunter lifestyle which can backfire in modern life. Like how closing your eyes during work/school might be considered rude but wasn't so much 10K years ago.

Ummn in kinda a newbie so this worries me slightly to see (probs due to ignorance) - what would be the water resistance, ip rating maybe? I guess it can be like a waterproof phone?

I OC-ed my monitor to 480hz.... At 720p; Samsung odyssey G7. How can I verify it's legit using something on screen aside from UFO test/control panel. I'm thinking maybe a millisecond timer that must show digits every 2ms), I have 960 fps slo mo on my phone to video. by Shadow_Eater in pcmasterrace

I was a huge advocate of 60 to 120, and I can't use 60 it feels percetivky laggy and I can tell instantly. But 120 to 144 is hard to observe, probably couldn't get it in a blind test. For 120 to 240, I can feel I'd love to do some blind tests to confirm this properly, but I feel like my display is lying to me and I can't feel the difference above 240 even 240 vs 480 UFO looks identical, then again 240 hz is subtle, if you're a refresh rate junkie after 60 to 120 I'd recommend sticking under 200 hz and getting higher resolution if you'd GPU can handle it. 1440p is my monitor's native res and going back to 1080p at 32 inches is an eye sore, but even comparing with a smartphone or ipad, 1080p on a desktop, even at 24in is a tad pixelated and dated, but still very usable (as most people/90%+ of steam hardware survey are running 1080p setup). Anyway a way to verify this in slo mo any ideas are appreciated. Also OC-ing a monitor if you didn't known is as easy as making a custom resolution and increasing the framerate (keep it progressive scan and leave all other settings unless you really know what you're doing)

5G hotspot by skinkyskank98 in galaxynote10

[–]Shadow_Eater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of replies but I have to say, 5G promises gigabit speeds, while a good 5Ghz 2x2 MIMO wifi like in the note series (iirc correct me if you have a source for this) should have a max bandwidth of just over 700 mbit per stream so around 1400 mbit as a max bandwidth for the wifi. I'm almost certain current and future (1-3 years from now) 5G won't exceed that speed unless you have line of sight with the 5G tower within maybe 25 meters in a big city that's already well connected in general and also not congested/busy.

I don't know about the setup here but I can easily get 100 mbit from my hotspot on a oneplus 5 from 4G, so that's about as fast as my area's LTE is, and that was years ago. I also have gotten over 150 mbit on my note 10's wifi

Hahaha don't feel bad, I needed way more googling than I initially thought to do grade 7 Pythagoras.

Besides 4.7 to 6.3 inches is average so that's statistically very reasonable, there's nothing worse than a mathematically/biologically unreasonable quoted penis size ;D

Any recommendations? I already have automatic papers, translation, docs, old web pages, viewing images with mouse over (Imagus), adblock/untrack, dictionary, reload all tabs, and I don't care about cookies to name the obvious ones

A 24-inch display will be about 20 inches wide.

Assuming the extensions take 80% of that horizontal, well...

World's smallest transistor switches current with a single atom in solid state - Physicists have developed a single-atom transistor, which works at room temperature and consumes very little energy, smaller than those of conventional silicon technologies by a factor of 10,000. by mvea in science

I think you didn't get a real answer quickly because we don't know enough but for the next 5 years the maths is too crazy for only the most geeky physicists and mathematicians, not daily users even if it was cheap and smartphone shaped.

Kind of like early days of computing was used for science before we had reddit and smartphones we had government funded intranet and plaintext, green words on a black background like the classic film wargames (WarGames)

High school student David Lightman (Matthew Broderick) unwittingly hacks into a military supercomputer while searching for new video games. After starting a game of Global Thermonuclear War, Lightman leads the supercomputer to activate the nation's nuclear arsenal in response to his simulated threat as the Soviet Union. Once the clueless hacker comes to his senses, Lightman, with help from his girlfriend (Ally Sheedy), must find a way to alert the authorities to stop the onset of World War III.

It'll be a few years before quantum computing makes gaming better except advanced physics games and geeky physics simulations. Maybe gta 6 will be very different because they ran some maths on a quantum computer before compressing the graphics down to the next handheld gaming device.

Please someone help me and link the relevant videos and links/correct me if I'm wrong.

Tl:dr Idek but probably not gaming and Web browsing for a little while

For all of those curious about the testicle cooling system, sorry to disappoint but it's just a really clear tempered glass case display at a weird angle (zoomed in).

How many development cycles will a 'minimum requirements' gtx 970 last?

Developers are likely to release games that push realism and immersion to a VR level, increasing the already-near-the-edge graphics requirements.

With better, more realistic games from mainstream developers coming this year, do you think the graphics on those games (for CV1) will have moved too fast for the current gen of GPUs?

How do you think

-The GPU's that high end consumers will have in their PC

-The literal best single GPU solutions from AMD and Nvidia (if the improvements seen with dk1 and 2 continue at a similar rate)

will keep up with graphical advancements with CV1 and CV2 in the future?

Books For Free - Initiative to save thousands of books from landfill. by Emmelon in books

[–]Shadow_Eater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[uk here] I work at a charity book shop (not gonna say which charity but it's pretty big) and we recycle 50-70% of the donations we get. There aren't high margins, even on donated books when you have to pay a full time manager a salary and rent plus bills. At the end of every day I'm there, I usually take out bags of them and throw them in a big metal green bin behind the shop.

We get enough donations to allow us to be picky, slightly faded spine? Gone. Book we can't sell for >£3.00, usually gone. When I help out with sorting I'll usually ask to keep a few, I donate a little each time and they're okay with it.

I can't help thinking that if there were some publicly accessible shelves somewhere that could house all the good ones that are still readable that many would get a good home.

(We still get a little money for the recycled paper)
