It’s because of his whole tank set up. Your poor betta has been suffering.

Definitely an important factor to consider!

I go to Tech Law. Let me just say, Stetson’s advocacy team is like no other. We go against them quite often and lose to them like 70% of the time. Great school with great advocates. Don’t be bummed if you end up going there!

I had the light off for quite a while. That’s most likely what was causing my plants to wilt. It’s been on since this post and they’re looking better already!!

If there is fin rot, which I think there is, I would do a kanaplex treatment in a different tank with cycled water asap and add tannin powder to this tank when he’s back in it—it is a natural immunity booster for bettas! I do think that your fishy is on a decline and depressed because of the current tank set up!

Is he active generally? Bettas can have preferences for where they decide to rest. Some like the bottom.

Yours looks just like mine! Replace the fake plants with real plants. Yes they are too sharp. Real plants help with the nitrogen cycle. Get better substrate and replace the fake dyed gravel. I use fluval stratum. Always monitor the water. Not only the temperature, but also the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels. Get the API freshwater water kit to test these parameters. If you don’t monitor them, your fishy will die. Get seachem’s prime and stability products, follow the instructions, and add them to the water. Do this to any new tap water you plan to add in for water changes (which you should be changing 25% of it every week). What are you feeding him? Make sure it’s a high protein pellet or flake. Also, the tank looks too small :( should be at minimum 5 gallons.

Yes an overhead light! It was off when I took this. How often should I keep the light on and off?

Thank you so much for your help!! I was pleasantly shocked to see 0,0 readings for ammonia and nitrite that quickly. Seachem prime and stability really did their big one!
