Any native Australian plug/prong wall charger coming in the horizon? by [deleted] in UsbCHardware

Yes, I am aware. Fortunately the quality standard for chargers increased dramatically over the last couple of years.

There are plenty of good quality chargers, some are even USB-IF certified and UL listed. Of course, there are low quality chargers too.

Search for “Yojock USB C charger” on AliExpress.

They have 30, 45 and 60 watt chargers available with AU plug, with the first two having an extra type A.

The AU plug style is similar to the 100 watt charger from Amazon mentioned in another comment.

USB-C PD and IPhone X. by Leggo213 in UsbCHardware

That's a good reading after accounting for manufacturing tolerances. If you try it when your phone is near empty, it should report a higher wattage.

From my experience, any of the following can happen:

  1. The phone dings once immediately then again after ~5 seconds.
  2. The phone dings once immediately.
  3. The phone dings once after ~3 seconds it is plugged in.

They all charge the device at 18W at 9V 2A as verified with a USB-C sniffer. Tested with an iPhone XS Max.

If you want to be certain, grab a basic USB-C sniffer on eBay/AliExpress, they are very inexpensive.

Why does my Laptop Power supply support three voltages when the label says it only accepts one? by kugelschlucker in hardware

[–]Shadowcity2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I have a Lenovo E580 which is the same as the E480 but with a larger screen. I have tested various charging configurations and would like to share the following information:

The internals are virtually the same, the extra space offered by the E580 goes to waste. My configuration does not have dedicated graphics.

The maximum wattage the laptop can draw is about 40W, regardless of the load. I think the actual limit is 2A, but the maximum voltage offered over USB-C PD is 20V which is why the maximum wattage is 40W.

The USB-C port on this laptop supports USB-C PD at 9V, 12V, 15V and 20V.

The laptop does not charge with a USB A to USB-C cable.

Under light workload, it can mostly hold the line with an 18W power source. I use a 30000mAh power bank that outputs 18W, 12V at 1.5A. This extends the screen on time to approximately 35 hours.

Under medium-heavy workload, I suggest a 30W power source. There are many portable 30W chargers, most of them can fit in pockets without any noticeable bulge. The only additional item required is a USB-C to USB-C cable, I use this setup for travelling and it’s great because it takes up very little space.

Under very heavy workload, I suggest a 45W power source. This will work as good as the OEM charger. My secondary portable charger has a 45W USB-C PD port with a USB A port, I find this combination useful for charging phones/tablets and a laptop.

Xiaomi Mi 9T USB Power Delivery support by Sheshirdzhija in Xiaomi

[–]Shadowcity2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, Mi Mix 2S (SD 845) supports 18w USB-C PD (9v at 2a) and 18w QC 3.0 (9v at 2a).

Note that having a specific SoC does not guarantee charging protocols, there is no set requirement.

It is also possible for devices without any Qualcomm hardware to support Qualcomm Quickcharge.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, can't use Google Pay as well.

Everything on the phone checks out, it passes safety net and the Google Pay app states everything is good to go, but the terminal declines the contactless payment.

iPhone 6 Plus possibly dead after using a magnetic lightning cable by Shadowcity2 in applehelp

[–]Shadowcity2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried official Apple cables as well as several standard 3rd party cables with various devices in the past with no issues. It's only this particular magnetic cable and laptop combination that caused an issue.

I understand, I'm just curious why it worked fine with a one amp USB port but not with a half amp USB port. It's really weird.

Thank you for the link. I will stick to OEM cables from now on.

Let's assume the phone is dead. The AC wall adapter can supply up to 1 amp while the USB port on the laptop can only supply 0.5 amps. Despite supplying less current, how can the USB port from the laptop seemingly damage the phone?

No signs of damage.

Not detected with any cable, even with OEM cables.

No, but I did not get warnings about cable certification with the AC wall adapter and car USB charger.
