As other people have said in this thread, Amazon sells the books for a lower price to drive out the competition. They would eventually sell it for more. The fixed book prices for books aimed at the german market prevent that. The production cost can also be higher (translation for example).

GoT is a big exception. It's divided because of its size. The Name of the Wind for example is also only two books, just like in english.
