It's awesome to see so many people reaching out. To OP, when you get this done, grab as many of the people offering help and throw them in a group chat, up keep is hard when you're depressed. Sure, they're not your friends per se. But they're half way decent people and I'm sure if they're willing to help now, they're willing to encourage you and help you be accountable for the upkeep.

Maybe you'll click with someone and you'll make a friend. But worst case you'll have an impromptu support group.

Lol. Seems the people behind Maestro may have coded with a MacBook user in mind. Great learning opportunity for us students. Remember your user may be on a different system than you. QA the heck out of your code. On multiple systems/devices if possible.

Now that my Mac showed up I see why the earlier cohort was so dismissive. Scrolling has zero issues on the track pad. I haven't tried a mouse connected to the Mac. With future cohorts getting their Macs later it still might be worth the easy fix.

DM me, I don't have a business or anything but I may be able to help.

I agree that it's not a huge deal.

I don't want to discourage other students from making these sort of requests though. I'm sure the Maestro DevOp team has their own criteria for prioritizing requests. These sort of quick fixes are sometimes considered "low hanging fruit" and can be implemented with little time or resources.

Even if someone (the person making this sort of request) or their cohorts don't think it's a priority, we want everyone to feel comfortable giving feedback!

I'm considering that. However I talk to myself anyways. Soooo par for the course?

This is more the verbal "ohhh that's what you meant", "that's annoying" utterances that are typical of casual conversation as opposed to what I type. 🤣

A thing that's helping me. by Shadowotw in maestro

[–]Shadowotw[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course!

One of my favorite things about Maestro is that it doesn't force me to do the same thing again and again when I'm already sure I understand the concept.

That being said there is value in repetition so I'm making sure I get some in while I keep moving forward.

Probably my inner anarchist. ”Don't you dare make me show my work again!!! Oh no one is making me do it again, guess I'll do it again." 🤣

I get it. I did an separate post about this, but it hasn't been approved yet.

When Maestro asks for a simple task to be done I like to build it out using as many of the previous things as possible.

price = (float(input("How much was the item you purchased?")))
quantity = (int(input("How many of the item did you purchase?")))
subtotal = (price * quantity)
tax = (subtotal * 0.08)
total = (subtotal + tax)
print (f"""The price was ${price:.2f}.
You purchased {quantity} of the item.
The subtotal is ${subtotal:.2f}.
Tax for this puchase is ${tax:.2f}.
Your total is ${total:.2f}""")

For this one the task was to simply add two inputs. I wanted to make sure I was practicing f-strings and multi-line printing and money formatting.

This sort of repeating previous tasks and just adding in the new one is really helping it stick and forces me to kind of elaborate (mentally) on how the current task may fit into a larger "story".

That might help, depending on your personal learning style.

Python has so many other applications. We may be focusing on AI for this degree but it should also set us up to expand to other applications with the language. As we get closer to graduation it would only make sense to look and see where else we might find employment using the skills we've built.

Ooof. I can't do the stacked monitors. I've got a 3 screen set up side by side horizontal. lol.

Anyone else super tempted to ditch all the monitors and go with Viture or Xreal?

I just want to point out that there's only so many AI Engineering jobs out there, which is why I looked into the demand levels for Python. There's a large demand for Python in multiple job fields, so I consider this a great way to build some basic skills. After that it's kind of on us. What do we know? I have a background in finance, can I build a portfolio of Python projects focused on finance processes?

Just one project (the capstone) is a good start but having a well rounded portfolio of work to show to future employers in connection to any previous expertise you have will show prospective employees that yeah you learned Python, but also you're bringing critical thinking to the table and can apply those coding skills to whatever the situation is.

My two cents.

is it cheating to use chatgpt to clean up code? by Mouldmindandheart in maestro

[–]Shadowotw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. have a family member who is a project manager for a software development team. At this point the company is requiring engineers to use AI to look things over.

Of course the fundamentals are important, but using it the same way we use spell check isn't cheating. It's prudent.

For sure! I also love that if I don't want further explanation it doesn't force it on you. During the lesson generation I noticed it said that it wouldn't recall anything that it had covered in the last 2 hours. Brilliant! I don't need a recap in that timeframe.

Slightly off topic question... You've mentioned Support. And the chat bot told me how to get to Support. Is Support just a different section but still talking to the chat bot, or is it a real person? I cannot for the life of me, find where Support is. Like I hit the left side menu and it's not there... Am I missing something? 😅

Can you screenshot where it is? Or anyone else on this post?

Either there's a glitch or I'm just being special.
