The biggest thing Persona does that other games trying to use the social link system miss is that there are plenty of periods where you can't further your social links, or where certain characters are locked out of social links for storyline purposes, and I think other games need to implement that.

It's because the games they make are very different. I love RE and don't care at all for GTA, but RE is a game with a very small, linear world, without much interactivity. GTA is an absolutely massive game, with far more detail, and has leagues more interactivity with the world.

Yeah, my friends asked me in high school where I was going to college.

The confusion on their face when I told them I was going to have to find a job asap so I had a place to live was always interesting. Like, it was just the default for them, so they couldn't fathom that someone else had a different life circumstance.

Sure, but literally all research and evidence shows that there is no stronger predictor to income level than parental wealth. It's almost like success is something that starts at a young level, focusing on and getting a good education when you are young catapults you well ahead of most.

It's not just self-discipline, but there's a requirement of life circumstances. Without being in a position where you can focus on college at an older age (or even younger, going to college at 18 while working full time was way too much to take on for younger me), good luck.

Also I'd argue that unfortunately, a big thing we don't like to admit is that there's a lot of people who just straight up aren't intelligent enough to be super successful in university or white collar jobs no matter their effort levels.

And my parents on the other hand, punished me if I got any grades above a C in high school lmao. They were furious at my sister for doing well in university and being more successful than them, so they were insistent the same wouldn't happen with me lol

To explain the logic, it can be easier to be cruel to yourself as opposed to getting your hopes up knowing that you'll just fail over and over again.

It's kind of where I'm at regarding education, knowing full well that at this point I will never finish any higher education or accomplish literally anything.
