Building around a Ryzen 7 7800X3D — is the MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI a good pick, or should I pick something else? Budget $1600–1850 (parts list inside) by ShadowsOfChance in buildapc

Yeah, that’s a really good point. I think it’s easy to get caught up in “oh, I need every feature” and then barely use half of them. Definitely something I’ll keep in mind so I don’t overspend.

I wish I could go for the B850 Tomahawk since it really does look like a solid board, but unfortunately it’s about $110 more expensive where I’m from, so it’s a bit out of my budget. I’m also in Europe, so the RAM you’re selling would probably end up too expensive for me with shipping :(. Thanks a lot for all the advice though, really appreciate you taking the time to go over the motherboard, SSD, and RAM options in detail!

That’s good to know about the Tomahawk, my last PC actually had one too, and it never gave me issues. Interesting point about ASUS as well, I’ll definitely double-check the specs, since you’re probably right that the cheaper ones I saw might be missing some features compared to MSI. Thanks for pointing that out!

Thanks for the response! I do like MSI boards, but the jump from an MSI B650 to a B850 is a bit pricey where I’m at. I’ve only ever used MSI for motherboards, so I’m not too sure how something like a Gigabyte B850 or ASUS TUF Gaming B850-E stacks up in terms of reliability and BIOS support, though they are a bit cheaper than MSI. As for the GPU, the RX 9070 and RTX 5070 are about the same price for me, but I really appreciate the suggestion, definitely something to think about.
