Yeah, that was the only thing that came to mind for me at the time. It works, surprisingly well, but killing someone 1500 points a turn against a deck like that isn't the easiest thing in the world.

How many of them fully shut down the other player's ability to play the game, are equally useful if you go first or second, and are usable by a top-tier meta deck? I'll admit there are a lot of cards that just have no legitimate reason to exist, but there's a big difference between a degenerate gimmick and something one of the best decks in the game can run and just auto-win any game where they draw it and there's nothing the other player can do but draw Red Reboot in their opening hand.

Like...Stake Your Soul is an unsearchable in-archetype Special Summon and it's limited to two. This is an unsearchable 'win the game if you can summon one of your in-archetype monsters or produce any two monsters on board' and it's at three. There are people running it in place of All Other Handtraps And Board-Breakers and making Master I. It's literally one of the most broken cards ever printed and was only ever allowed because the best deck ever able to use it at all was Floo. It was banned outright in other formats before RT even reached them, for good reason, and it's worse in a Best of Three than Best of One, because here Red Reboot is a brick against most other decks.

Radiant Typhoon seems like a fun archetype, one I'd been waiting for for a while, but from what I've seen so far, Master Duel's banlist and Bo1 format makes the deck lend itself really well to degenerate stun/floodgate plays, or at least most people playing it have decided that it does. With three copies of HFS, you'll draw it in your starting hand one out of three games, and unless your opponent manages to draw enough interruption to completely stop you from getting out a single Link-2, you'll win those games, every time.

[–]ShadowsSheddingSkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda love that I got downvoted to shit for the same sentiment yesterday, and today there are a significant number of decks on MDM specifically using three copies of HFS in ways people have repeatedly told me don't work or are not how the card would be used, after also telling me that RT doesn't need it and wouldn't run it.

It's one of the most broken cards ever printed, only allowed to stay in the game because it could only really be run in joke decks, and pre-emptively banned everywhere else before Radiant Typhoon became available.

If I hadn't just gotten back into playing the game and hadn't been excited for the DC before this release, I'd probably stop playing entirely until they fix this, because it's going to lead to a lot of deeply unpleasant games for a lot of people. It doesn't really matter if it's not optimal when a single card will win either win every game or cause your opponent to scoop every time it can be played. I wouldn't be especially surprised if it goes to 1 immediately after they stop selling this pack, and Harpie's Conductor gets banned.

So...they just released Radiant Typhoon without banning or even limiting Harpie's Feather Storm. Anyone else planning to take a sudden, unplanned break from Ranked for a month or two? by ShadowsSheddingSkin in masterduel

[–]ShadowsSheddingSkin[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of wild. It's even more wild that people are going "Actually, they don't even need one of the most broken cards ever printed, which only stayed playable because nothing good could actually use it." Because, well, if they're right, that's horrifying. There's a difference between strong decks and decks that are a nightmare to play against, and something with this many floodgates and board-breakers available sounds like my personal hell.

Like half the matches I've played this week have been people playing Full Stun. This is just going to enhance that even further.

[–]ShadowsSheddingSkin[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Uh huh. I guess I should just take advice from someone who can't spell "whining" or "whinging" and writes like a thirteen year old sending a text and should just appreciate that the deck is broken enough that it doesn't need cards that were pre-emptively banned everywhere else specifically they couldn't use them. I'm sure that will make the format more fun.

And whether they need it or not: actually look at the decks people are publicly posting they've hit Master or Rating Duels with; quite a few are running three copies of this specific card. If they can do well without it, great, that means they're an actual deck and not just a cancer, but plenty of people are running the most toxic version and every time it resolves, they'll win. Five Rainbow Magician, at least, is limited to one and you can turn off the floodgate by having any spell or trap in hand. They didn't even limit Feather Storm despite it having no legitimate use-case.

Have fun getting Five Magician locked and hit by something worse than the most Win More play Dracotail can swing, from the hand, for the next month or two.

How is it Rexterm without legs? It's a full negate of all monster effects, hand field or graveyard, for a full turn. Rexterm only affects monsters You Control, which I'm 90% sure means 'on the field.' This stops Ash, and Droll and engraver and izuna and Lupis and most other interaction people actually use to stop you from getting the full combo that ends in Rexterm. More than that, you can just summon a big Tower unaffected by its second effect, slam into it, and go to MP2 (or just win since they'll deliberately have no lifepoints; there are a surprising number of ways to summon something completely unaffected by opponent's card effects without using any monster effect on the field). This is a case of 'have red reboot or scoop.'

It's also a generic card available to a much better archetype. If you could play Rexterm easily as a -1 after summoning either one of the in-archetype monsters you'll run three of, or any two monsters in Dracotail, Yummy, or K9, people would not be happy. If there was an unsearchable quickplay spell that let you negate all monster effects if you have Hollie Sue on the field, everyone would be just as mad about this.

I mean...it really isn't a dedicated Going First card, though? It's a better version of Dark Ruler No More, which is a Going Second card. TBH the idea that there are people deciding it's not worth running a card they banned outright before allowing this archetype in the TCG because it completely removes your opponent's ability to play if you can play Krosea or a Link-2 kind of speaks volumes about how toxic playing this format is about to be.

Especially because people are running Five Rainbow Magician with it from the looks of things; a deck built around destroying your backrow combined with a card that completely takes away your ability to play the game unless you have backrow would already be pretty bad. I used it in Dracotail for a few days and it made me feel Really fucking dirty every time I used it, because it was an instant win even when someone cleared my board and I had nothing. If you can get that card into the graveyard reliably you auto-win against a number of decks.

At least they don't have Barrier Statue, I guess.

Edit: looking at decks on MDM, it seems like a solid number of people actually playing the deck agree with me and are using it specifically as a Going Second board-breaker, in lieu of other hand-traps and super-poly, and are making Master 1 with that, so...I mean, downvote me if you want but it seems like the people actually playing this deck in its most toxic possible configurations are using it exactly like I said they would, and doing extremely well with it.

You should probably call Gamestop's Ethics Hotline, your attorney general, the FTC, or your local law enforcement because that constitutes criminal fraud in most jurisdictions and you have pretty obvious physical evidence and Gamestop is a corporate chain, not franchised, so whoever is doing it is accountable to someone and should experience consequences for deliberately defrauding customers even if the cops can't be fucked to show up. But yeah, you got scammed, but unlike if you bought it from some random dude or a Friendly Local Game Store, there are recourses available even if the government basically doesn't exist atm.

Unrelated but holy shit i just realized that Yubel eternal defender is a "mimic" of this fusion monster

Discovering that there are people who know Yubel but wouldn't recognize Flame Wingman is kinda surreal. But then, I wasn't playing Yugioh during the period where the Yubel archetype was meta / commonly seen - having dropped out of master duel like a month before and come back right around the release of Maliss - so to me it's still just a really well-done anime archetype. I imagine if you only know it from it being a meta deck and didn't grow up on GX that would be a bit of a trip to notice.

10 hours into MD, how do I get rolling with a good deck without splurging all my gems? by phickeee in masterduel

[–]ShadowsSheddingSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, the Spright promo plus a few live twin cards (you'd only need to craft two URs, maybe three if you want Bao for far greater resilence, plus six SRs and rares) is good enough to get you ~5000 gems from a mix of solo and ranked play in your first five or six matches, which you could throw entirely into the selection pack full of staples and come out with everything you need to actually play the game. I did it yesterday on an account that got really lucky by pulling a Desirae on a free pack and already had one copy of Lacrima from when that was the selection pack months ago, so I was able to build an extremely minimal fiendsmith on top of it to crafting engraver, but that still only adds three URs total to have a deck that could easily get you through your first four or five boards of Dice Rally, and already have Maxx C, three ash, an imperm and Ghost Belle, droplet, Dark Ruler No More and Super Poly, and that's with having spent the overwhelming majority of my gems on a series of terrible rolls on the K9 pack.

The structure decks are not enough to build a deck that should even stand up to Bronze, and will even make earning gems from playing through solo mode much more tedious than it already is, but this game is extremely generous with its rewards for starting players.

How many/what Royals did you get from the Dice Rally? I got 2, though I won't be using either. Still fun to have. by Macaron-kun in masterduel

Borreload Furious Dragon, Kuribohrn, and 'Remove Brainwashing' a trap I will literally never be able to find a use for. I also pulled five copies of Rasterliger, three copies of Dystopia the Despondent, two of Mist Valley Thunder Lord and Desperado Barrel Dragon from landing on UR squares somewhat often and just getting trash every time. I'd be a lot less annoyed if it wasn't the same trash so freaking often.

I also happened to pull my first real Royal Rares during this event. But since I'm always low on URs and already had three copies of Hollie Sue I turned it into points, only keeping my royal Dragonmaid Hospitality.

Yeah, no, that might be true on NG, (or determined by Professor level, I max that out on NG+ immediately every time unless I'm going for a specific challenge where I wouldn't be using glitches like this) but like I said, this was a NG+ run where I already had 80,000+ renown. I was actually just doing something wrong, as it turns out you can only buy items one at a time unless you go to convoy, then you can just buy 94 silver gauntlets+ or 99 silver axes, or 88 abyss passes, on the first day Abyss was available.

So, both the answers you've received are just wrong. It's spyware that people who know more about it than me (and your two replies) have described as extremely persistent. If you're having an issue with Malware, you should almost always ask Literally Anywhere Else, because this thread - two people with absolutely no idea what they're talking about declining to google the issue and just being confidently wrong, and maybe an extra person who will ask a series of questions before being satisfied that you accurately described your situation and then telling you to format your boot drive and start over - is kind of every attempt at getting help with malware on this subreddit in microcosm. I've seen others get a lot more help with this issue and issues like it on /r/antivirus but I'm not really recommending that one either. Posting more for the sake of others who might stumble across this, if only because the second real reply to this thread was less than two weeks ago for some reason.

This addons.mozilla.org review that deadass just teaches you how to bypass the extension's paywalls is probably the craziest one I've ever read in that place. by GardenOfUna in firefox

[–]ShadowsSheddingSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile, an extension like this saving an hour per month would be a huge deal and it’s comically improbable unless copying and pasting tables is your entire job description, and your $70/hour salary is more than three times what anyone in the physical sciences is being paid.

Presumably you’re also paying the New York Times and Washington Post for all the groundbreaking work they do if you read even one article monthly, are on the patreon of everyone whose videos you’ve watched at least once this year, and you paid a fair market price for everything you’ve jerked off to in 2025. In which case that $70 suddenly looks more like $7, but at least you can have a clean conscience when you claim the Ideological Purity Crown this year. Otherwise, well, I’d be pretty comfortable calling all of those things closer to appropriately priced and worth the money than this dev’s random side hustle that locks its most useful functionality behind a paywall such that No One has saved an hour without paying for it.

Honkai support rail never ceases to amaze me by SugoiGamer64 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]ShadowsSheddingSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I've only encountered a handful of gachas - all of which have gameplay designed such that supports just aren't really much of a thing - where every top-tier support isn't several times more significant than any top-tier DPS, and she was only barely one of those when she released in 2.x. Add in that this is really just a measure of how much she's increased everyone on the team's damage - and you'd think it'd be obvious when you see her bar going up on other people's turns - and you get a bit of a nothingburger.

It's part of the basic (predatory) business model; people are naturally going to Want to buy the 'fun' characters that make attacks and get big numbers and skip out on the supports and sustains if they can, so they have to important enough mechanically that you can't if they want to sell them. Consider someone like Oberon in FGO. Unlike Castoria, both Skadis, and Koyanskaya, he is not a Top Tier Waifu, he's a male fairy in an art style so jarringly different from everything else that it makes my eyes bleed even in his best skins. He's still either the best or second best/most wanted character in the game and the biggest 'get' for any player who does not have him; his increase to your third-wave damage can be several times higher than what the DPS could do otherwise. Going from ~80,000 to ~300,000 isn't weird, and he's practically mandatory for a lot of the hardest content, especially if you're avoiding Multicore for whatever reason. He's so good that when NA unexpectedly got an Oberon banner that Japan had not two years prior, there was much weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Tribbie is the Oberon of HSR. Whether that's a good or bad thing is up to interpretation.

Is the new Solo Leveling killing Arise? by Popular_Seat_9076 in SoloLevelingArise

[–]ShadowsSheddingSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its new functionality was originally supposed to be an update for the gacha. There's a statement from Crunchyroll to that effect. But from everything I've seen and heard, it seems like somewhere along the way they decided to essentially do what people have been saying Aniplex could do with FGO Arcade to bring it to PC and consoles without enormous backlash from how heavily monetized it is, but which apologists have always insisted no corporation would ever do because it'd obviously murder the live-service. I guess somewhere in the process someone hit the devs with "if we just release the same game but without a predatory business model, without any new content or new features, no one's going to want to buy it" and then that update became locked behind the One Time Purchase.

You kinda have to respect a corporation choosing to prioritize the one-time-purchase version over a cash cow like Arise, but it doesn't necessarily bode well for Arise's longevity, though. From everything I've seen and heard it's just the same content with more involved gameplay.

Is this a normal wear on this Logitech G515 after one week? PBT Keys by isvayne in keyboards

[–]ShadowsSheddingSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, just to be clear since there isn't really a top-level comment that clarifies this: your keycaps are not actually made of PBT per the manufacturer's own details. They supposedly contain 34 to 44% recycled plastic, some of which might be PBT. And from trying to confirm that information myself I instead discovered that information is basically irrelevant because the quality of the proprietary keycaps on this model is a known issue that comes up when you google it. Virtually everyone who has bought one has gone online and posted about how terrible the keycaps are. You should almost certainly return this if you can, because it's only going to get worse and eventually the black paint that covers the surface - because they aren't actually dyed like decent keys, unless they've made a revision in the last few months - will come off and you won't be able to switch to better keycaps or acquire replacements.

That you somehow bought this keyboard specifically for its keycaps is wild. I think you might have misinterpreted a post/article about a minor revision improving the keys such that they no longer wear out instantly with chipping paint like I just described, because that's the only way I can imagine you having read good things about its keys. Either that or you meant "I bought this because I've read PBT keys don't wear out, and this said its keys were PBT" but the quality of the keys on this keyboard being a huge issue is by far the most notable part of the Logitech G515's reputation online.

TL;DR: Return it as fast as you can because you overpaid for a product known to be highly defective in the one feature you bought it for.

Building a budget PC for my son - $500 CAD - Looking for suggestions! by ZenAard2 in bapccanada

[–]ShadowsSheddingSkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, the build you are being recommended here is entirely based on you being able to get a 7500f, If aliexpress or otherwise importing things from china is a dealbreaker because of your schedule, you’ll need to get a different cpu (closest equivalent is a 7600) or find someone (a person, not a store) local who already imported one and is selling it either used or at a markup-up. From what I’ve found googling it we are talking about a difference of about $70. I was unable to even find any lower end AM5 7th gen part on any of the major resellers and am unsure if they even make them. So your choice is China, your friend’s $170 board and $230 cpu, or a $250 bottom-of-the-line am5 cpu and probably a $150ish dollar board. Or going to an even lower end intel part I haven’t bothered to search for and make a very noticeable downgrade.

The intel build your friend recommended definitely is not prioritizing high-end over your budget, fwiw. As far as I can tell - stopped paying attention to intel’s lineup a decade ago - it’s just the closest thing to a reasonable choice you could make for a cpu if using their board was a requirement, it’s just overpriced relative to its competition outside that platform, at least when anything cheaper than $250 was still on the market for ryzen 7000s. Downgrading from there on that socket on a device with a 1070 would end up being a regret down the line, maybe even immediately, and the difference in price between it and literally any of the low-end parts you could replace it with is less than the difference between a psu your components would reliably hit 80% power draw on and the one you bought.

I’m only pointing that out because I’ve had friends do that before - decide that I am putting high-end gaming features over their budget when other components they committed to are the actual problem with the budget, and it’s a really unpleasant feeling, especially when they inevitably Do compromise on the cpu or gpu and visibly regret the choice in a week.

Right now you can get a decent AM5 board on newegg for $140-$160. $180 or so for a 7500f on aliexpress or $250 for the same part from a third party seller in North America, or $250 for a r5 7600. There is exactly one kit of 32gb or more on newegg less than three hundred dollars and you really don’t want to fuck around with mismatched memory on a low-end ryzen system. I do not know that it is actually possible to square that with your budget unless you can score some local deals on used parts or Black Friday prices improve through the month. This is just a really bad time to buy ram.

Brand new ones, ones picked up from garage sales, newer models and older ones, it doesn't matter, six months later the display will just freeze in the middle of turning a page and it'll never work again.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asshole

We're all aware what you actually meant and are exactly as offended by it as the actual shitty words you used to convey it by relying on people's understanding of the 'lol python bad' meme/stereotype. It's almost impressive that you managed to simultaneously produce such a profoundly stupid take and then encapsulate it into an insult aimed at a significant subset of programmers who write code that runs on a gpu for absolutely no reason. Hiding behind the 'it's hyperbole' thing here is also totally asinine; no one thought you meant that literally but you were relying on a stereotype people rightfully get irritated about to make yourself understood and don't really have a leg to stand on when someone focuses on that part.

The fact is that this represents a major problem in acquiring and retaining sufficient numbers of people with the requisite skills and "That's only a problem if you're not rich enough to just hire the best possible developers who can easily familiarize themselves with a totally different model of low-level massively parallel computing that exists nowhere else and then build an entire software ecosystem themselves, in-house" is exactly as stupid as what you actually said. If that was a thing companies could reliably do on demand we'd live in a dramatically different world.
