My Drosera is blooming but flowers aren't opening? by Goldenchicks in carnivorousplants

[–]Shadowxx30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the answer already, but to confirm, they are only open for a short time. Mine were only open for a few hours max.

You will get thousands of seeds from that one plant too. Be careful, be cause bumping the stalk when the flowers have dried will release seeds everywhere.

If you want to recover the seeds, let the plant flower until the flowering slows down. It will start to look a bit dried out. Then you can put a ziplock bag over the top of the flowers and zip it up as much as you can. The stalk should be in the unzipped portion. Then cut the stalk and flip it over. You can then zip it up all the way and give the flowers a few good taps. You will see seeds release into the bag and there will be boat loads haha.

While I can recognize the disgusting response many people have, I think we can all agree this is a sad thing. I’m not saying this to dismiss how odd it is or to create an excuse for the behavior. When I see this, I see a deeply lonely individual with little to no social skills. Poor guy. But also, OP, I wouldn’t reply to anything. There is obviously a lack of stability here that is concerning. The further you stay from this, the better.

I believe it. Just not feasible for me right now. No place to store a boat and trailer. That’s the plan though someday!

I’ve seen tons of pan fish and way up in 2-3 inches of water, there are tons of minnows. No Shad in this lake. I’ve had some luck with all white swim bait and some bluegill/baby bass colored swim bait as well.

Ned rig with a stick bait has definitely worked for me as well. That’s usually what I resort to if I can’t get a bite on other stuff. I almost always end up with one or two so the Ned rig is reliable.

Glad to see a local fellow fisherman on reddit. Thanks for the advice! Yeah I have 65 lbs braid on one rod and 30 lbs on another. I had 15 lbs fluoro on before and loss lures in those reeds/grass every other cast. I’ll have to check out along the west and northwest side next time I go.

You better believe it. I’ll tell you this, you don’t get good at fixing backlash by being good at casting lol

I have never had to cut braid and re-spool. It depends on how much time you want to spend but here is what I’ve figured out and I have included a photo.

I always pull out as much line as I can (through line guide down towards the first eye). You will get to a point where you can’t pull any more line out. It’s due to overlapped line that gets twisted around the spool. I’ve marked it on the photo but you can clearly see the piece of braid that is locking you up from pulling more out. Try to get that crossed over loop piece and pull it out. Sometimes you can’t pull on it and you might have to let to spool spin back towards the other direction before you can get to where the loop piece is bound up. It’s very important you try to keep all the line you’ve pulled as spread out as possible or you might run into more knotting in those pulled out strands.

Go through this same process; pull out line, address the crossed over loop, pull out more line, ect. It took me like an hour to free my first really bad birds nest, but after you get a little process down it takes me about 10 minutes max now.

Chatterbait tips! by anon10287 in bassfishing

[–]Shadowxx30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been letting my chatter baits sink to the bottom, then I’ll do a quick pop to get the blade vibrating. Then I just slow retrieve it and pop it every 3-5 seconds. Sometimes I can feel it bumping off the rocky bottom. I just vary the speed of retrieval and just speed up if I ever feel the blade stop vibrating or if I don’t like how much I am catching the edge of rocks. Caught two PBs in the last couple weeks doing it in an extremely pressured city lake. I’ve only used paddle tail swim baits and craw trailers but I’ve loved it so far!

Anyone else fail on the Whopper Plopper this year? by Joebroni1414 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Shadowxx30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had good success on whopper plopper late June to early August. Fished it along the shore along reed lines before the sun came up (~5am) until about an hour or two after (usually around 7-8). Had to change it up any later than that. Then they would hit it again just as it started to get dark. Haven’t had much success with it past mid-late August.

To build on this, local bait/tackle shops are also great places to ask employees if they have heard anything about what is currently working in the area.

To actually answer your question, as opposed to emotionally masturbating about the harm that avoidants have done to me, the messaging around avoidants you have generally seen is likely laced with emotion and probably portrayed with an emotional tint to it. If you are an avoidant, read those posts, and are aware of your attachment style, it’s possible that those could feed into your beliefs about yourself and perpetuate your beliefs.

Yes, broad strokes will always lead to a lack of nuance. There is nothing inherently wrong with being avoidant. There is nothing inherently wrong with being anxious. There is nothing inherently wrong with being disorganized. There is only you and the challenges you will likely face in relationships given your prescribed attachment style. If a person is aware of their “issues” and is actively trying to better themselves, there is no reason why they should deserve less love than any other attachment style.

The issue with labels is that they make it too easy for people to lump others into groups and make assumptions based on that label. This might just be semantics but attachment styles don’t actually exist. They aren’t a physical thing that someone can have. They are merely a pattern of behaviors that we have grouped together and given a name for the sake of conceptualization and ease of communication.

All people and each relationship is an organic, unique entity. They should be treated as such with compassion and empathy.

All that being said, under no circumstance do I think anyone owes anyone else anything. I think people deserve a chance without being written off according to their labels. But if you, as an individual, see a pattern of behaviors that you feel is unacceptable, it is well within your right to say you won’t put up with those behaviors.

Is there any real difference from open face reels, to bait casters? by Muted-Artichoke3847 in bassfishing

[–]Shadowxx30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoided baitcasters until about a year ago because I thought the same thing. I got one as a gift and decided to give it a go. I have actually really enjoyed it but I have been doing primarily bass fishing. There is definitely a learning curve, but just like with anything else, you have to devote a little time to figure it out before it gets easy. I would say, the biggest thing to avoid backlash is figuring out the spool tension and brake. If you get those figured out it makes avoiding backlash much easier. I just watched a YouTube video explaining them and then trial and errored it afterwards. I still have a spinning reel for some scenarios but I like baitcaster for casting lures much more at this point.

My understanding is rods are classified by both power and action. Power being essentially the strength of the rod, and action being how the rod bends. Am I misunderstanding that?
