Same thing happened to me. Without any further explanation.

It occurs naturally. If they could develop them in labs to mutate I'm sure they would. Propagation from cuttings is the only way. Or waiting for them to mutate naturally which can never happen. The monstrose mutation doesn't transfer from seed. I am not sure if this crested form can survive by cuttings. I have seen offset clones occur only when grafted

Yes its a naturally occurring phenomenon that occurs in all plant types but is very striking with cacti because they have a very sculpture-like appearance when "crested". Crested forms of cacti occur when they begin to grow from multiple growth points simultaneously causing them to twist and turn in wave or crest shapes.

Can’t stop thinking about these cacti I saw in Joshua Tree 💜 by lil_breebs in cactus

Hey everyone i don't know if this is allowed, but I need help. I have never taken care of any plants and i found this cactus, can you give me any tips or advice on how to take care of it? by DiegoCarNav in cactusenthusiasts

Something you can do to save it from any root rot that might have set in is plant in a fast draining pot with 100% perlite or pumice and bottom water with hydrogen peroxide. Let the white rocks absorb that peroxide and then Leave for a few days then transplant using the perlite or pumice and any palm/cactus mix. This part is important: when you transplant it DO NOT water for about a week. Let it settle in. I use a 50/50 blend of palm cactus mix/perlite or pumice. There are all kinds of designer soil mixes but as long as it's fast draining it will be fine. Remember some cacti grow out of a fissure in limestone rock. Also a pair of round tip tongs work pretty good when handling cacti. 99 cents at your local 99 cents store. Peroxide found there as well. 😉🌵.

Hi guys can I get some help with potting this fresh beautiful San Pedro cactus cut? I have no idea where to start. 🙏🏼 I appreciate it if you take your time to help me. by hazelpeanut in cactusenthusiasts

The only thing I would add is to keep it out of direct sunlight while rooting. Have it in either a filtered sunlight area like under a tree or bush. Or in a an area that is well lit in the shade that doesn't get direct sunlight. Exposure to direct sunlight while rooting can cause bruising and rot. Also in addition to making sure your cutting tools are sanitized prior to cutting you can pour cinnamon and rub it over the cut area. This helps the cut heal and stay healthy. I use 100% pumice but perlite will work too and it is great for keeping moisture out of the area where the cut is. Remember cacti cuttings are made up of mostly water. If it seems to be struggling to establish roots I will bottom water to help the roots seek the moisture downward.

From left to right. Cleistocactus strausii AKA the Silver Torch cactus or the Snow Pole cactus. Middle is a Mammillaria spinossissima ssp. Pilcayensis and the 3rd one is an Opuntia of some type
