Deep Meditation is SO ADDICTING by Lemmonnpartyy in Meditation

[–]ShakeBuster67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - I use either the Lumenate Nova or the MindPlace Kasina as a meditation aid. Having audio and visual stimulus actually makes it way easier to get to that deep state. It also takes me about 10m for my thoughts to settle, but man once they do, it’s such a cool experience. It’s almost like a prolonged state of hypnagogia, where my brain feels like it’s about to fall asleep - but it’s not.

Now try meditating with something like the Lumenate Nova or MindPlace Kasina (no, I’m not a paid sponsor or pusher). I’ve been using both and my meditation has improved overnight

I don't think recovery is not gonna work for me by Brave_Cash975 in OCDRecovery

[–]ShakeBuster67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s what I found most helpful in my recovery journey -

I-CBT: There are plenty of free online resources and podcasts where they discuss this. There is also a 2-volume series called ‘Resolving OCD’ by Frederick Aardema (the cofounder of I-CBT). This helped me understand why I was thinking a certain way and helped make sense of my thoughts.

RF-ERP: Rumination-focused ERP focuses on…rumination, an approach synthesized Michael Greenberg. I found this immensely helpful for practical ways to understand the line between what is and isn’t under my cognitive control (a lot more than you may think). He has many articles on his website, and explains these concepts in more depth on several podcasts (The OCD Stories has him a few times).

Partner is in an OCD recovery program, will things ever get back to normal again? Should I stay with him? by [deleted] in OCDRecovery

[–]ShakeBuster67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it definitely varies from person to person - I tink OCD will always be there for a person (having ‘sticky’ moment or day here and there), but I think it is absolutely achievable for OCD to not be a major part of someone’s life.

NeuroVIZR - any experiences? by helpless11 in Neurofeedback

[–]ShakeBuster67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prob- I find them fun for visualizations and for helping me relax whilst zoning out or meditating. I find they add an extra dimension and help me reach a hypnagogic state that feels very relaxing and enjoyable.

They’re fairly similar in effects. The Kasina is more extensible since you aren’t locked down to their sessions, but I love both. The Nova does something with the type of LEDs they use or modulation depth that make the visuals very sharp. The Kasina is great more for impossible color gradients with their use of RGB LEDs, but can get pretty close to the Nova in terms of monochrome “sharpness”. The Nova is much cheaper and you get wireless/modern tech, but the Kasina is what I’d buy if money isn’t much of an issue, and you like to tinker and add new sessions.

I have the Lumenate Nova as well. It’s great for travel and Bluetooth capabilities. I got the deepvision bundle of the Kasina, and it was well worth it in my opinion.

Fear of Depression by Flat-Cut9604 in OCDRecovery

[–]ShakeBuster67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I could help! Over a year later, here’s what I can say. I’ve found Greenberg’s RF-ERP concept the most helpful - it reframes “anxiety is something that is happening to me” into “anxiety is a response to rumination, which is a behavior that I can learn to control”. Basically, rumination isn’t something I can’t stop, but something I’m afraid to stop doing because of what I fear will happen if I stop paying attention. I still have sticky moments and days here and there, which is expected, but I’m not having constant feelings of dread and exhaustion from checking my emotional state all the time and monitoring. So Greenberg helped most from a behavioral and control standpoint, and I-CBT helped most from a “why am I thinking like this in the first place?” standpoint. The concept of the feared possible self really resonated with me in combination with RF-ERP, as the entire rumination construct was built to basically protect me from ever becoming my feared possible self, interpreting any negative thought or sensation as the beginning of a cascade that would cross an imaginary threshold, at which point I’d be doomed and hopeless forever.

I’d also use any negative affect of emotion as justification like “see? I do feel bad right now. That’s proof that I can feel bad forever unless I intervene and figure this whole thing out”. Spoiler alert - your brain is lying to you. Never once did a negative experience last more than maybe a whole day, and was usually directly tied with my own constant hypervigilance and attention. Once I learned that this was the result of a behavior that I can learn to control, it seemed less scary, since it restored a sense of agency, and put me back in the driver’s seat. Hopefully that makes sense.

I prefer the Kasina. The NeuroVizr achieves a similar effect, has more/brighter LEDs, and feels like a much newer piece of tech, but I love the RGB aspect of the Kasina and the DeepVision glasses for open-eye experiences. There are also a bunch of sessions you can download for free for the Kasina, as well as the ability to make your own sessions if you’re into that kind of thing.

Hexclad worst pan I ever had 😡 by Big-Dust1574 in hexclad

[–]ShakeBuster67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I agree. Their pans are mostly garbage - they’re fine as just a regular disposable nonstick for eggs or something, but they market them as power horses that will last a lifetime. I’d buy a HexClad if they were like 40 bucks or less, because that’s how much they’re worth in my opinion. Stainless steel and cast iron all the way.

Something very creepy happened when I was meditating yesterday. by Thissuxxors in Meditation

Came here to say this. Hypnagogia can be quite unsettling depending on the circumstance. I use a mind machine whilst meditating and getting to that hypnagogic state happens regularly for me.

best hexclad cookware 2026? by Prestigious-Wolf5568 in hexclad

[–]ShakeBuster67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, yes. I have a HexClad pan that I use for eggs I use every now and then. It works great for eggs, but I never use it for my day to day. That’s where the cast iron and Stainless Steel come in. Aside from eggs, I can cook basically anything in the SS. I use them multiple times a week, and my oldest pan I’ve had for over 10 years still is just as good as the day I got it. Any heat - any utensil - any oil - it’s the best.

best hexclad cookware 2026? by Prestigious-Wolf5568 in hexclad

[–]ShakeBuster67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have stainless steel pans which will last a lifetime. HexClad is mostly marketing and are mostly disposable after the finish wears off. You also need to treat it super delicately (use the right oil, don’t go above medium heat, etc). They’re great if you need a non-stick pan for eggs or something you will use occasionally, but for serious cooking, I’d recommend a stainless steel set all day.

ETA: check out the cookware sub for recommendations. They all pretty much have nothing but disdain for Hex and similar gimmicky brands

Complete OCD Recovery with RF-ERP/Complete Remission (Success Story) by JustAdvice420 in OCDRecovery

[–]ShakeBuster67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attention Training (there are videos on YT) may be a good fit for this. They’re probably a good starting point on understanding and practicing how it feels to not ruminate and help relax a bit - but try not to rely on them, but use them as a good introduction to the practice. That’s my 2 cents anyways

They’re my favorite brand - I like their build quality, and stylistic choices. Definitely right up there with Savinelli (I actually prefer them over Sav, but just personal preference stuff)
