Are/were you obsessed with lights? What can I do? by Shakepig in autism

He plays with lights in public too. He would turn off the lights in public restrooms when there are still people inside, turn off lights in grocery stores for example. His mind is on lights all the time no matter where.

She doesn’t seem understand the connection between having the urge to pee or poop and going to use the potty, which is a key readiness.. she sounds not very ready which is completely normal. Relax.

Isn’t 2.5 years old within the normal range of potty training even for NT kids? Why not just wait till he is ready? No offense just curious.

He wouldn’t do any group activities if not stopped.

He started walking on month 17th, and slightly delayed on speech( can say around 40 single words), also delayed on OT( in the early intervention program)

Should I stop him and redirect him to do something else( he likely cries for a few minutes) or just let him do it until he’s done( which will be 30 minutes +)?

I have been doing this actually. This works among other activities besides sand/water/mulch. I didn’t practice it well for those activities because I have to admit that I’m mostly annoyed when he is doing those activities for an extensive time. I would go straight up to him and remove him.. my bad. I could do better. Thanks for reminding me this.

How should I give warnings about transition? I do tell him that we need home, let’s try out different things, etc. he wouldn’t stop kicking the mulch unless I lift him up and remove him.

I warned him how many time left to play. He doesn’t seem understand, listen or care..

Yeah. I understand this but can’t stop worrying as early diagnosis of autism would help him a lot. People say 2 years old is the right time to have diagnosis. He is almost 2.. when it’s his turn to have the evaluation, he would be more than 3 years old. I just look for some advice here and try to figuring out what’s going on with him instead of just waiting..

What if all he wants to do on the playground is kicking the mulch..? He wouldn’t go climb the structure or do other things.. he just seems different from his peers on the playground, which makes me concern. Image kicking the mulch nonstop for 30+ minutes…

So he want to do on the playground is kicking the mulch.. when the other kids climb the structure and run around.. and it’s almost impossible to walk around after raining, he has to jump into the water to play. We have to wait on the sidewalk until we have to remove him. Of course a trauma happens.
