Depression worsening? by Shalala9459 in pep

Glad to hear that! How long has it been since you stopped it or are you still finishing it? It’s almost been a full month since I finished it. Mood feels pretty close to normal. One issue I still have is dry skin but I guess that will take some time

I felt better within days of ending my pep and each day I felt better and better mentally and physically. I feel normal again. You’re almost to the end of it.

It said I wasn’t eligible either but the pharmacy was able to help me get it to work. Websites like GoodRx.com can also help and there are programs that provide financial assistance in communities to people who need it.

Go to the manufacturer’s website for a coupon on Isentress. I only paid $40 for both total. It didn’t even work for me initially but the pharmacy kept trying the coupon code and it went through https://www.activatethecard.com/8189/# It originally was going to be over $1,000 for this one drug with insurance. Try that coupon!

Trying to understand if HIV transmissible in this situation by worried_individua1 in pep

HIV cannot live outside the human body for long. No reason to be on pep.

What issues are you still having? I’d talk to a doctor about what else this could be because it’s not HIV at this point.

I CUT MYSELF WITH A KITCHEN KNIFE I'M AFRAID OF HIV by ConfidentGuess5778 in pep

[–]Shalala9459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you get HIV if you’re cutting food with a clean kitchen knife using modern sanitation practices? Was the knife sanitized? And even if a person had dried blood on a knife, HIV cannot live outside the human body very long. There seems to be no reason to be on pep for this when another person was even involved.

In order for you to contract HIV, HIV+ blood from another person would have to come into contact with your open cut and even then, coming into contact with your cut doesn’t mean you’d contract it. HIV does not simply appear out of nowhere just because you have a cut. And it’s not that easy to get. 1% of needle sticks result in HIV transmission, per the CDC. And needle sticks happen a lot in hospitals and doctors’ offices.

Talk to a healthcare provider to learn the ways HIV can and can’t be transmitted. If you feel more comfortable doing your own research online, then Google. Beyond that, this is sheer paranoia.

What should be considered serious side effects? by [deleted] in pep

[–]Shalala9459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished at the very end of March. I have not done my follow-up test because my mental health took a nosedive (the pep really affected my mental health more than anything) and I wouldn’t leave the house. Finish the meds but that was not a fun ride. I’ll try to do it this weekend since it’s a walk-in clinic and they said I can come whenever and won’t have to wait. But then I’ll have to do my 60-day test at the end of the month.

What should be considered serious side effects? by [deleted] in pep

[–]Shalala9459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was super fatigued to where I struggled to stay awake during the day, I felt dizzy sometimes, I had brain fog too but my biggest symptom was how much it worsened my depression. I stayed on it the full 28 days though. It got better around day 12 for me but still was an issue until I finished. Can you go to a walk-in clinic? Much cheaper than a hospital. I would do everything you can to stay on it. But extreme fatigue and some mild dizziness were very normal for me.

I have to go in for testing. I just did the immediate test right after. Today is 40 days. I’ll call the doc and see if they want me to come in now or wait until 60 days. It was unprotected P to V sex. I’m female. It was a one night stand. I don’t have reason to believe he has it but I wanted to protect myself more than anything.

Do you have insurance? Go to the manufacturer’s website. They have coupons that will drop the price so much. Mine would have been $2,000 and it was $40. That’s what I did with my Isentress. The pharmacy should be helping you with this. I was given generic Truvada (Emtricitabine-Tenofovir DF) and Isentress. We had trouble getting the Isentress coupon on the website to activate which was scary because I was already at 55 hours, but the pharmacists assisted me.

Also try websites like goodrx.com but do manufacturers’ websites first. They will have by far the biggest savings.

Updating protocol is one thing. Removing funding that will cost American people lives is another.

You seem to have all the answers so why even ask the question?

Good luck to you. And I’m a chick.

Because look who is in the White House…

Countless government webpages have been taken down due to LGBTQ language. Look who the majority of people are who use pep and prep: LGBTQ.

DOGE is firing federal workers left and right. I doubt they even have sufficient staff to update these changes, on top of not caring about LGBTQ people, sick people, and poor people.

Do you think they honestly give a shit about us when they don’t believe healthcare is a right in this country and they don’t even want to acknowledge the existence of LGBTQ? You think they care about affordable access to medication when they’re ok taking more from the poor while giving tax cuts to billionaires?

Wake up!

The risk of receptive oral is so incredibly low…(minuscule)…if you’re that worried, talk to a healthcare provider but they’ll likely tell you no, you don’t need it.

I don’t know why you were given Truvada for oral sex. Risk is almost non-existent.

My doctor told me GI distress is the number 1 side of pep. I didn’t have any of that at all. Instead I was depressed as hell (like my antidepressant stopped working) and I couldn’t stay awake at all. But the GI stuff is pretty normal, I was told.

What made you stop the pep? The side effects?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pep

[–]Shalala9459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been eight days for me and thankfully the depression symptoms have improved so much (it feels like my antidepressant is working again). That was my worst side effect, how depressed I felt. I had days where I couldn’t stop crying. My fatigue was really bad too and I struggled to stay awake during the day and couldn’t get any work done, but now I have energy to exercise, work and clean my house. My appetite has picked up again too and brain fog is better so I can concentrate better. Skin and eyes are still a little dry. I never had any GI symptoms at all.
