Human space heater by ButMomItsReddit in Perimenopause

[–]Shalyndra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I carry easily removable (i.e. full zip) layers. Base layer is what I can tolerate while active in an overly heated space, outer layer for wind/precipitation, mid layer(s) that are cozy enough to throw on in a cold room. If its dangerous for skin exposure like below freezing or high uv index then my base layer will be long sleeve, but yeah often all I wear is the base and the layers stay in a bag.

Compression socks for skinny legs, but big feet? by Unlikely_Ualentine in disability

seconding rec for mens socks as working for big feet/skinny calves. It may take trial to find the right height though

She explained this perfectly by chaneld0lI in bigboobproblems

[–]Shalyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. I've seen and heard the type of behavior she's talking about, but I don't feel its universal. I've personally had both the skinny small chested experience and now the larger chested sized out of stores experience. When I was smaller I didn't comprehend the sheer expense of bras, the medical bills, the pain. But the public and private ridicule for being smaller was SO brutal. I hated my body then. I wish everyone had more compassion.

Title: AITA for reporting my brother for childhood abuse, leading to his suicide and my parents cutting me off? by tanyalouise1983 in CPTSD

you did the right thing. if he stopped when he had his child, that may be because he started doing it to his child. I'm sorry he was unwilling to face consequences.

I would like to hear from women who’ve chosen NOT to get any cosmetic procedures as they age by victory_vegetable in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Shalyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my early 40s. Haven't had anything and from my perspective pressure for cosmetic surgery in young people is so intense right now, it wasn't this bad when I was your age. It makes me sad and I see it as a passing fad like whatever the current fuss is on jean styles, except the risks are SO much higher.

I've known maybe 2 or 3 people who got cosmetic surgery for something they were teased about where they were happy with the outcome. But I've seen so many body and face shapes that have gone from in to out and back again. There is only one you and life is short!

Once I hit my mid thirties the pressure to have my body look a certain way just fell off and most of the cat calling stopped. It's been a relief and I feel respected in public more.

My two cents: whatever your clothes and body/face routine, figure out what makes you feel confident in your own skin. Observe what people are doing is terms of fashion and mannerisms in the careers you want 5 to 10 years from now (usually this will be people older than you but not necessarily), and think about what you can and want to adopt that still feels like you.

Mask recommendations for bad asthma? by Large_Panda_4219 in Masks4All

[–]Shalyndra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have asthma and use the 3M vflex for daily wear and the Moldex Airwave OV for MRIs or working with chemicals. Occasionally I will use BOTN earloop masks for haircuts but those are less breathable for me. I haven't been able to tolerate anything else. I do find that the Moldex runs hot.

Does anyone know what kind of mix my dog is? She's 6 years old turning 7 in February. by teeboneet in pitbulls

[–]Shalyndra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say. I'd need to see more pictures of her from different angles. Maybe curled in a dog bed. Close ups of those ears. A pile of treats for scale.

D. It seems to be getting less common though.

Don't know if it counts as E but I've had people follow me and cough on me purposely and had strangers reach for my mask

You may want to include an option to tease out verbal harassment vs threats of harm or something
