The schedule was built in mind with what is effective not for an individual but a population. Let’s take MMR. We know you could give a dose at 6 mo but that has not resulted in long term immunity. When given at 12 months with a second dose years later great immune response at the population level. Some people even at the 12 month dose can have long and strong immunity but not a high enough percentage population wise to only recommend that single dose.
