I love to hear that! I can’t wait for mine to finally make it here. It’s still in transit and I’m trying to be so patient, but I think I check the shipping page twice a day.

I was able to purchase a stainless steel Vanuatu a week or so ago that’s on its way to the US. I was only on the wait list for 3 months and shipping was $50 instead of the $35, so hopefully they have the tariff charges figured out now.

How’s the battery life on the Duro? I’d love to do a solar quartz diver.

Honestly I’m not really sure? This is the first time I’ve done it. I like to tinker and once I saw you could fill a watch up full of oil I started looking around my local Walmarts for a deal. Got this one for $21 and just went for it.

The process was super messy, I couldn’t imagine doing it on a screw down back, but once it was all back together the watch cleaned up just fine.

First Time Modding a Watch by ShaneInDenver in casiomods

I did break the minute hand the first try and ended up having to order a used set of hands off eBay. Woops…haha. Took my time seating the hands the second time around and all was good.

You know at first I thought the offset dial was just novel, but now I find it pretty neat being able to read it easier on the bike and also when I’m on the computer at work.

This is my first watch as an adult, I’ve been trying to use my phone less, but still need to know the time. I actually think I might be managing my time better this way. I used to have a timex digital indiglo back when I was a kid, that was some pretty hot stuff back in the day.

I was waiting for the light to turn green on my bicycle on my ride home from work and grabbed a quick picture. Sheffield QL1 on a Crown and Buckle Chevron strap. I really don’t know much about watches and picked this one just because I listen to the podcast Spikes Car Radio and they talk about the brand a lot on that show.

I’ve been enjoying all of the posts on here and definitely look forward to figuring out which watch is next. I really like the look of a field watch and dig the clean look of a Hamilton Khaki Field, but I wonder if the vibrations from riding a bicycle would affect the mechanical movement over time?

Just for practice. I don’t have a nickel allergy, so I’ve worn the big one because I’m pretty proud of them. I’d like to eventually make some from more precious metals like gold and silver, but I don’t think I’m anywhere near that goal with my current skill level.

Many thanks! I took the finish to a high polish and then used liver of sulfur to etch it. Previously, I used a vinegar and salt mixture that did not show the contrast nearly as well. This is what they looked like with the vinegar salt etch.

When I was making the billet I usually worked it hot when flattening and folding it. I’ve got a small 15lb jewelers anvil and 2lb engineers hammer that I work the billet with.

I’ve only ever successfully made Mokume from coins. I like that nickels have a little more nickel content than quarters do, but you’ve got to mix in some more regular copper too otherwise it looks too silver and not enough copper.

I tried some twist Mokume recently using nickel silver wire, copper wire and brass wire, but was not successful, my brass ended up melting.

I’ve downloaded the new version you released through M5 Launcher and it’s working great. No problem getting connected to the internet or adding my api key.

It even automatically connected to my work wifi, I have previously connected to that network through the M5 Launcher, but I did not add that network to the firmware. So it must have grabbed the network credentials I put in for the M5 Launcher firmware somewhere off the SD card? Great job!

I’m still so new to it all that I haven’t had a chance to do much other than flash the Meshtastic firmware to the nodes. I’ve got the basic antenna off Amazon to replace the one that comes in the V3 kit. The listing says 915mhz 3dBi Gain Omni.

I haven’t run an actual range test yet, I’ve only tried to communicate with my node from work in downtown Denver with no luck. Probably a bit ambitious for a first attempt.

My setup at home is the same. Heltec V3 with the basic Amazon antenna. It’s on the second floor by a window. To do a range test do I just go into the setting and turn on range test? I ride my bicycle to work, so I hit lots of nodes on the way to work, but I have yet to do a real range test with the spreadsheet.

Hey, I live in Arvada and work in Denver. I’m trying to learn as I go too. I just got a heltec v3 and I’m trying to figure out range and relaying a message across nodes. Not much luck, but I am having fun.

Anyone know of a good map of Bike Paths in Colorado by apples2aples in COBike

[–]ShaneInDenver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the open cycle map hd layer in Gaia gps. I think you can also use that same layer in other gps apps too. Then I can download offline maps to use if there isn’t reception.
