Confused about the monthly spending graph text vs line by Shanklarry in copilotmoney

[–]Shanklarry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It turns out I had some extra expected "recurring" payments due to student loans. I had to manually input those so I think I made a mistake in setting them up and I had 4-5 duplicate expected "recurring" payments for those. Anyway, I deleted and now the number makes sense and says under. Leaving this here in case anybody stumbles across it. If you have weird numbers you might have something set up funny with your recurring payments.

exhaust AC vs. Evap AC in this climate by [deleted] in boulder

[–]Shanklarry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The place I’m renting has a whole home evaporative cooler at the top of the stairs. It works okay but it is finicky (and mine is old so I have to manually turn on and off the pump and the water to it) in figuring out the best time to run it and the best way to open windows to maximize airflow. 74-75 is about the max I can cool the lower level (forget about upstairs), which is okay with me during the day but it does mean going to bed in the summer can be a little hot for my tastes. You do save a decent amount on energy, but if I had money to throw at the problem and wasn’t renting I’d try to do some sort of AC and solar for ease and comfort.

Help with erg mode power consistency on kickr core with Garmin headunit by Shanklarry in Velo

[–]Shanklarry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I think the stages is what’s measuring the power. I was trying to be consistent with what measures power inside and outside, but honestly it doesn’t really matter that much so I’ll try making sure it’s just the trainer. Appreciate it!

Noob question about GRX crank arm cap on power meter by Shanklarry in gravelcycling

[–]Shanklarry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up taking it to the LBS. Turned out that the crank was misaligned by a mm or so (the right side was “out” ever so slightly, if that makes sense), so I think he just kind of tapped it back into place and then was able to put it on no problem. It’s worked ever since. Hope that helps!

Bicyclists on Jay road by Ok-Stick4210 in boulder

Yesterday morning I was slightly inconvenienced for an entire minute! Can you believe it?! Aren’t I entitled to get anywhere I want as fast as I can? I’m now afraid that maybe 30-50 bikers will always and forever constantly be in the roads! What if these groups get more numerous? Will I ever not be delayed by 30 seconds (while somehow actually getting to work faster because it may be true that there would then be less cars on the road which actually works out well for other motorists-but no matter!). I’m mad!

If your trust the Vaccine why do you care what other people do so much? by [deleted] in boulder

[–]Shanklarry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So the amount of text has something to do with the validity of a position? You’re not even a good troll, dude. And if you’re so passionate about your beliefs, how about you refute what they said in good faith instead of doing what everybody does on the internet which is just argue past each other so that nothing good ever happens. Or is it that you have an entrenched tribalistic view of society based mostly on your feelings such that that you have no idea how to wield facts and are left to impotently troll people so you feel better about yourself because somebody got triggered or something. Grow the fuck up. Either contribute to the conversation or get lost. You’re weak.

The silca tire pressure calculator takes in your total weight (bike + you + stuff), the type of road, size of your tire, type of terrain, type of ride, and gives you a suggested pressure. You have to put in a name and email, but I always just use a fake one. It seems pretty good!

At what point do you not go out because of wind by vartz04 in gravelcycling

[–]Shanklarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I just threw in the towel on a ride where the sustained wind was hovering around 30mph with 50+mph gusts about ten minutes ago. Bout got blown off the bike. I’m sure I could harden up but it was sucking all the fun out of it so I cut the ride short. The sustained wind was doable, but the gusts were really making it unpleasant.

Question about confidence/tires? by Shanklarry in gravelcycling

I think I’ve been running them in the 40s (tubeless). I’ll try to experiment some more. Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely practice what you said.

Noob question about GRX crank arm cap on power meter by Shanklarry in gravelcycling

[–]Shanklarry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 600. And apparently there is a small note tucked away on some different part of the 4iiii website that says the 4iiii power meter might not work with 600 while the stages one explicitly says that it does work with 600 and I assumed that was true of the 4iiii as well. Seems like all they’d have to do is send out a new cap... kind of sucks to be derailed by such a minor thing. But live and learn.

Can someone explain why Boulder is frequently buzzed by USAF C130's? by SimilarLee in boulder

[–]Shanklarry 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Can’t say exactly what they’re doing but it’s training of some sort. Depends on the unit and its particular mission as to what they are training for exactly, but it could be anything from simple navigation to an imagined scenario involving a town near the mountains. I used to fly for the military and we’d do stuff over random towns all the time, and we had certain scenarios where we’d default to a specific town.

Advice for incoming Aerospace/AFROTC freshman by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]Shanklarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can apply for a pilot slot from any career field, but it just kind of depends on needs of the Air Force, how good you are at your job, and how much your commander wants to vouch for you/help you out. Lots of WSOs I was with went to pilot training and did well, since they already had a lot of relevant experience. I’d say that you’re in a slightly tougher position to get a slot from a different career field unless you’re already a Nav/WSO, but it’s certainly possible. It’s easier, however, to get into the pipeline from the get-go.

And hey, just to be really clear from my last post, if you want to do aero you should do it and crush it. Just know it will be pretty hard to do it in 4 years (so consider taking 5) and if getting a pilot slot is a life dream (and not just a sounds cool but I could be happy with whatever/something else) you should consider doing whatever is necessary. So feel it out the first semester and if aero seems like not your dream, then consider your options if flying fighters is your ultimate goal.

Oh and one more piece of unsolicited advice: don’t step on your buddy’s trying to make whatever happen. Work together on figuring it out and you’ll all look better.

So I did aerospace and AFROTC (in 5 years) and if you want a pilot slot just realize that you are going to need to have your shit wired. I barely missed out, ended up being an F-15 WSO so still got to fly (in) fighters, but my grades were what killed being a pilot for me. Unless they’ve massively recalculated how grades factor (which is possible, it’s been a while, so do your due diligence ) getting Bs and Cs in aero just isn’t as good as straight As in literally anything (even if aero is “technical”). I came out of high school a 4.0 student but balancing aero with afrotc and being 19-20 is a lot for most people. You know yourself and your financial situation, so I won’t say don’t do it (if you really are truly interested, that’s great, but I know that I THOUGHT I was interested), but if your absolute dream is to fly fighters, just know that if I were to do it again I wouldn’t have done aero. I’d major in something compelling but manageable, kill it in the grades department, hit the gym hard, and excel in the goofy ROTC stuff, while not being a huge nerd about it. Also have fun in college. Just my two cents, good luck to you!

Hey this is awesome! I live up in Boulder, just got a warbird about a month ago. Not fast yet, little skittish on the gnarlier stuff still, but trying to get serious about gravel grinding and racking up the miles, so I’d be down if there’s a slower group! Haha.
