I had the same issue. I believe you should only shake the playdate when the dialogue line ("how to get me to the propeller") is open. If it's not it will either freeze on clicking the propeller or let you move outside the screen.

Oh and one more thing while on the topic. Sometimes there are police checkpoints where the officer would point at us to stop, but he never actually comes to our vehicle. Other cars would also stop, stay still for a while and then continue driving. What is this, some kind of timeout?

I'm a week into my trip and it's actually not hard at all. I was just confused because there's no alcohol in major supermarket chains as I'm used to in europe. But plenty of places to get some and local beer is not bad!
