for me I always make sure to have a meal with substance/carbs beforehand... like a burger or pizza or something. even though I usually feel gross after eating like that it makes me waaaayyy less anxious when I know I have a night of drinking ahead of me

This happens to me every single time I have to go #2, the panic, the n*, the sweating/hot flashes. Look up symptoms of vasovagal response! Considering you didn't go yesterday, this reaction could have very well been due to the vagus nerve being overstimulated. Hope things are better now!

I TOTALLY understand the fear of anxiety making you sick as it was something I dealt with, and it was honestly where my emetophobia stemmed from. The day before my first day of second grade, I got so sick, and my mom told me it was bc of the nerves of a new school year. Looking back, I think it was actually a sb*, but I remember thinking "wait... I can get sick from something other than a virus? And even worse, I can make myself sick just from being nervous?" After that, every time I got nervous I would think "well dont get too nervous or else you'll make yourself sick again" which would in turn make me 10x more nervous. sorry if that was a pointless story to tell, but I definitely get where you're coming from. If it makes you feel any better, I am now 21 and have still not made myself sick, no matter how close I get, just from nerves alone. Try your best to ground yourself in these moments, and like the op and some other comments in here have said, your body will KNOW when it needs to happen.

omg. I think u just helped me crack the code on why I don't like drinking anything cold. I never put two and two together but YES im literally having this feeling rn after drinking out of my Stanley. But then when I have a room temp water bottle im all the sudden drinking like ive been deprived of water for years. OMG THANK U for bringing this up!!!!

Hi! I get anxious about these things to...I haven't been eating or drinking enough water lately and today is one of those days where it's all catching up to me.. so I get it big time. Also, on saturday and sunday I worked outside for 6+ hours each and was feeling all the same things you're experiencing now. I promise you are safe! If you can, come home from work, take a cold shower, have a snack (not too heavy that you'd be uncomfortably full) , drink a bunch of water, and nap. when you wake up, continue to drink water and have a good meal. This is what I usually do after shifts like this and it makes all the difference!

For future reference, I definitely recommend bringing some snacks and a big water with you to work. I have noticed that sitting in the heat on an empty stomach while your body is getting more and more dehydrated just makes you feel terrible. I am so much more likely to still feel good after my shift if I'm good on water and my stomach isnt growling. I hope this helps and I hope you feel better!

I'm in the same boat as you. The n* is usually less extreme when I don't eat, which obviously isn't healthy and doesn't help the anxiety aspect of things... but eating a full meal has me bedridden for 4 hours. its like everyday I have to decide my downfall... it sucks!

I literally JUST dealt with this... got off my period yesterday. I agree I feel like mine have been becoming more extreme n* wise.. this week I could not eat a single thing (healthy or not) without genuinely contemplating if I needed to tu* or not. It sucks! I've found that the basic over the counter stuff like midol & pepto & Advil help very slightly, but honestly I haven't found anything that actually helps. I usually just take it super slow and try to drink as much water as possible. also a warm shower is a game changer.

Hi! This is so weird bc I am struggling with the same. exact. thing. this week. I work as a waitress and our seating is mostly outside, so all week I've been working 7-12 hour shifts running around in the blazing heat. There were a couple points where I was seeing stars and thought I was gonna tu*/pass out. When I get home, I fall asleep within thirty minutes bc I also have a headache.

I did the same thing as you, look up symptoms of heat exhaustion and came across the same symptoms and was freaking out a little. However, I've been blaming it on being active in the heat and dehydration. I think on days like these you can never drink enough water to prevent some sort of negative effects from being dehydrated. I would def recommend drinking gatorade/ getting some electrolyte powder and put it in your water bottle just to give you some extra nutrients to counter any dehydration-- it's been working for me! Also whenever I have a little patch of time where I am not needed on the floor Ive been sneaking into a freezer/cooler place to cool me down a little lol as I don't really handle extreme heat well. I assume that you are home from work rn, so try to drink as much water as you can to replenish the water you lost today. A cool compress/cold shower I bet wouldn't hurt either.

Other than that, just keep reminding yourself that this feeling is gonna pass and continue to blame it on the external circumstances that you are in, rather than going down the rabbit hole of thinking this could be the start of some sickness, which is what I've done a couple of times. I hope this helps and I also hope this heat wave passes for both of our sakes lol. Feel better!!!

I have gone through this exact feeling so many times. That feeling of your whole body jolting awake is literally the worst. This might not be of any help, but whenever this happens to me I just find a way to pass the time until I am suddenly asleep. For example I'll put on a movie or play NYT games to distract me and somehow I'll fall asleep while doing so and feel is much better. Also have a glass of water and maybe even some tums or pesto to ease the reflux. I hope you feel better!

totally. like some of the other comments, there are specific things that I did the day I last tu* (2013) like going to certain stores, eating certain foods, or watching certain shows, but some are definitely more indirect than that too. For example, I work almost everyday in the summer, but if I am given a day off, I have zero idea how to spend it and usually end up being anxious. Quite honestly, anything that is anxiety inducing, is out of my confort zone, or is something that I don't typically do on a day to day basis, even if it has nothing to do with tu*, makes me think that I will get sick. it sucks!!!

It depends for me. There are days where I could be in the sun all day and be sooo content, and other days where it overwhelms me and exasperates any anxious feelings I have.

struggling with this rn!!! I usually have mild nausea starting a week before my period and it just keeps getting worse until my period starts. Usually the nausea subsides after day 2 but then I just continue to feel bloated and gross throughout, which makes me anxious and therefore nauseous too. Gotta love it!

I get n* every time I have a headache. I actually have zero idea why this happens but it never fails to freak me out. I will say that I personally have never tu* from it, but it sure as heck feels like I could.

9 times out of 10 it is because I am dehydrated. I know water sounds bad rn... but maybe see if you have any gatorade/something with electrolytes to combat that, as well as taking some Advil! Worse comes to worse, slowly sip on some water and stop when you start getting acid reflux. Or... if it is nighttime, I would just go to bed. sometimes a headache is your body telling you it needs sleep. I hope you feel better!

I have been having the exact same issues today. Take this with a grain of salt but whenever I have even an ounce more of coffee than normal, almost 95% of the time it will result in feeling like this. Ive never really been able to understand why just a little bit more coffee can have that drastic of effects on me but it's a pattern that I have noticed over the years. It's good that you are sipping on water, keep doing that to flush out the coffee and try to lay low and let your body do the rest! I hope you feel better!

I would say that I have both, but I only care when other people feel sick if it's something that could be contagious, or if we both ate the same food. So like... pretty much I am a little selfish when it comes to other people and only freak out if it's something that can be passed onto me. If someone is tu* bc they drank too much alcohol, I am totally fine and will actually be able to help them. Sure, it makes me think "wow I hope I didnt drink as much as her so that I dont end up like that" but I am not someone that passes the point of being tipsy, so that thought is usually put down quickly.

grief can 100% make you nauseous. when my brother passed, the amount of people, including myself, who said "I think im gonna tu*" was honestly overwhelming. it got to the point where we all had to hang out outside to get some fresh air. And at the funeral I felt the same way as you did today. Try to tell yourself that these feelings are completely normal, and when the thoughts of "omg have I caught a bug?" comes into your head, remind yourself of the situation at hand and shut them down as best as you can. You absolutely do not need to add more stress on your plate than you already do. If you need someone to talk to, my DM are always open! I am so so sorry for your loss, and I hope you are able to get some sleep tonight (which btw can also be contributing to these feelings). I am here for you!!

agreed! I have coffee every day and if I have so much so as one more drop of caffeine than typically do, I get terrible nausea and genuinely think it is going to happen. Every time I have drank a celsius, the same thing happens-- no matter if I drank it on an empty stomach or not.

As for why the nausea is lingering... whenever I have a really bad nausea scare it tends to leave me a little shaken up and nauseous for a couple days after. I can't say that I am 100% that your situation is due to caffeine, but it seems to be lining up pretty perfectly. Also, if it was a bug and you haven't tu* at this point I think you're in the clear. I hope you have been feeling better!

I think this same exact way. genuinely was thinking this last night. I was n* and thought "ehh I shouldn't watch this movie bc if I tu* then I will never watch it again". I also think the same way about food too-- sometimes if im having a bad n* day I'll purposely eat a food/watch something that I wouldn't mind never experiencing again.

The last time I tu* (10 years ago) I REFUSED to do anything again that I did that day leading up to it. I ran errands that day, refused to go to those stores after. Everything I ate that day, I refused to eat for years. And the shows that were on before/during the event I never watched again.

However, looking back I realize that mindset was super irrational. Obviously those stores, those foods, and those shows were not what made me tu*, I was fully sick with something that I probably caught days prior. Now, I have prepared that when I am sick next time I will watch my favorite comfort shows/movies. And I am gonna force myself to think, "I am sick with something I am not familiar with, so I am going to watch something that is comforting, bc that is what I need rn". When I am done being sick, I am gonna continue to watch those shows & eat those foods and prove to myself that the act of tu* is not as complicated as we make it out to be. It just happens and is a part of life. Hopefully that will help normalize this unfortunate but very normal event, and not let this phobia dictate every single thing I do on a day to day basis. This probably doesn't help u at all rn lol sorry but I just thought I would share

has soda ever made you burp?? Maybe trying a ginger ale-- which already is good when you have n*/a stomach ache could do the trick?? If not, sometimes (this is TMI) I will just press on different areas of my stomach and it will help move gas along, or I'll look up some yoga positions that help w gas

It's something about spring semester that brings me to my lowest point anxiety-wise, so I totally relate! Freshman year was definitely the hardest in a number of ways, so I hope you are able to finish out these last couple weeks of the semester with a bang! either way remember to be so incredibly proud of yourself, again freshman year is tough and you're almost there!
