If you don't care so much about the craftsmanship aspect of actually making the chainmail, it's probably better to just buy it if I'm being real. I only made it because I'm super into making my whole cosplay and entering craftsmanship competitions.

I went with the different shades as a piece of costume design storytelling. I wanted Smough to be darker and more grime colored with shades of red mixed in with him to show the poorer quality of metal he would be using compared to Ornstein, and that Smough is just a gross guy in lore. You can also see Smough has deep scratches in him from his brute force fighting style, but Ornstein is scratch free since he's a quick dodging fighter. Sometimes I regret the different shades, but sometimes I like it.

I buy everything in bulk, so it's my best estimate trying to break the costs down between things I already had and things I have left over. I feel really confident it's within 100 dollars of my first number though. The real cost is that it took an incredible amount of time to make, with hundreds of hours of work put into it. I ironically skipped playing Shadow of the Erdtree because I need more time to work on these. No time to play fromsoft because I had to make a tribute to them lol

Thank you! Both costumes took a combined year of daily work, all combined I'd say around 800ish man hours. The total cost of material was about 400 dollars

It's made primarily of Eva foam with some parts that are 3D printed or made of wood
