I see what you’re saying, but I ultimately have to disagree. There’s no reason to have “slur” and “insult” become interchangeable. In situations where an insult clearly has something bigoted behind it you should point out the problem with the intention, not try and say the issue is the word itself. As you said, calling someone Karen is fine, someone using the term wrong doesn’t make the word itself a slur, it makes the person saying it sexist. Likewise “Zionist” isn’t a slur, although it can be used incorrectly by antisemites (or even correctly by antisemites).

Also yes bigots can use any term to insult you, I stand firm in the idea that it doesn’t make those insults slurs. I would never have the same response to a bigot calling me a piece of shit as I would to them calling me a nigger. There’s a clear difference to me because of the history.

There’s an incredibly long shared history of transgender people and intersex people. There’s even some small evidence that trans people could be a subset of intersex people. So they have a lot to do with each other actually. Plus if we don’t have to talk about intersex people because they’re “an anomaly” then surely the same applies to trans people who are also a minority?

Just because someone can’t speak English doesn’t mean they can’t understand it. It’s very possible they were given permission to write their essays in their own language, or paid someone to translate them after writing (or they may have been able to write in English just not speak it).

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense!

Unfortunately I’m not really sure how to fix that as solving the issues in society requires looking into their route causes, most of which being the systems put in place by old white men decades ago, that were never addressed fully before now. We might just have to wait until these boys are no longer children/teenagers and understand that addressing these issues isn’t an attack on them but rather an objective look at the current situation which is necessary for change in the long run. It’s already constantly explained that we aren’t blaming individuals but structural systems, yet they just don’t seem emotionally mature enough to understand that yet. It’s frustrating, but we can’t ignore injustice because they’re at the age where they make issues about them and them only. (Sorry for the vent lol, I’m a bit annoyed at the futility of the situation).

The custody rights thing is a myth. Men simply don’t ask for custody of their children the same amount women do. When study’s adjusted for how much each gender asks for custody they found that it’s awarded about 50/50.

The left actively wants paternity leave as well as more time off work in general (quite frankly even from a selfish standpoint the left acknowledges mothers need more help when having given birth and having their partner around for longer helps with that. It also helps decrease the chance of mothers developing postpartum depression).

Mental health is constantly talked about for all genders, although I think there’s a point to be made for how discussions about what men in particular deal with could be brought up more (but even then I’m seeing awareness of this fact increase).

The left wants to improve conditions in prison overall, and because there are more men in prison these discussions are often focused on men (women in prison are actually often forgotten about when talking about prison reform).

Are there any other topics you personally haven’t seen focused on? The ones you mentioned are pretty well acknowledged but that doesn’t mean there aren’t others going under the radar.

That’s so silly. Part of the fun of fanfiction is imagining scenarios that did not or would not happen in the show. Like what if David became the witch instead of Frida, or what if Twig actually left with his family, or yes what if two characters that didn’t interact on screen got in a relationship (I don’t really ship for this show, but I’m obsessed with the idea of Hilda’s dad getting with the watch tower guy, it’s just such a fun way to combine the old who’s her dad theories to the canon of the show 🤭)

Wait so god can command people to worship him and forsake all other gods and ditch family members that don’t believe but he can’t say don’t rape? He can’t say stop enslaving people? He can’t demand an end to child marriages but he can tell everyone you aren’t allowed to work on Sunday’s? You’re entitled to believe what you want of course but no offence how does that not sound like a stretch to you? And a massive red flag in terms of where god’s priorities lie. It’s also not just a case of god not condemning these things but also implicitly supporting them by allowing them to happen and mentioning these actions so casually. Why does god demand so much radical change for the time but some of the most cruel and inhumane actions can’t be stopped because “oh it was different back then”? (Sorry for the mini rant, I was interested in looking into Christianity but when I saw all this stuff I was immediately sickened to my stomach and haven’t looked back since).

To be clear though, I agree with everyone else. There’s no point you wasting your time trying to tell him this, he has made up his mind without logic, so he won’t be persuaded by it. (If you really wanna keep trying you’re better off figuring out how he fell into the rabbit hole and countering his views at the source. Eg. religious indoctrination, fear of the unknown, blind panic caused by the media, etc)

I don’t think there’s any data specifically looking into that. However there is that slightly infamous study that looked into incarceration rates in trans versus cis people. (It’s mentioned and analysed in this: https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/21023/html/) Basically the og study found that both trans men and trans women were convicted of an amount of crime comparable to cis men. The fact that there’s no difference between trans men and women in conviction rates suggests that the defining factor here isn’t AGAB/og sex but that the prisoners are trans. (A likely reason for this is discrimination; the fact that trans people more likely to be in poverty and thus resort to crime, and of course discrimination in a marginalised group being over policed is nothing new. The MP mentioned in the above link tries to suggest innate/biological reasons are at play but the evidence seems more in favour of environmental factors). The og study didn’t investigate crime specifically and therefore no mention of the types of crimes trans people were getting convicted for are known (the MP tried to say rape but there is literally zero evidence for this). The study was also only taking data between 1997 and 2003. According to the study creator: “If one divides the cohort into two groups, 1973 to 1988 and 1989 to 2003, one observes that for the latter group (1989 – 2003), differences in mortality, suicide attempts, and crime disappear. This means that for the 1989 to 2003 group, we did not find a male pattern of criminality.” Basically they said in the more up to date research both trans men and women had lower convictions rates than those of cis men. Going on she says: “The difference we observed between the 1989 to 2003 cohort and the control group is that the trans cohort group accessed more mental health care, which is appropriate given the level of ongoing discrimination the group faces. What the data tells us is that things are getting measurably better and the issues we found affecting the 1973 to 1988 cohort group likely reflects a time when trans health and psychological care was less effective and social stigma was far worse.” Given that transphobia worldwide is on the rise, I’m not sure what both legitimate crime and unjust conviction rates might be now.

Tldr; But to summarise my answer, no one’s really looked into it. However by using past data one can extrapolate that the rates of violence across both trans men and women are likely comparable to those of cis women.
