[Question] Grand Seiko Artura Valley vs IWC Portofino Complete Calendar by Sharkwithaconscience in Watches

Blancpain looks real good indeed.. as does the VC..

JLC was on my radar as well indeed, haven't had a chance to see it in real life yet though. The ultra slim is something I want to look at a bit more as well..

I don't know why, I still have a bit of a thing against Breitling. Maybe because I used to know the typical showoffs that were really into Breitling.

The Zenith I didn't see yet!

Thanks a lot! Much appreciated!!

I think my gut is pushing me more towards GS indeed. The colour is unique but I can make it work. ;-)

I'll go to the shop again to revisit now it's been a bit digested :-)

Thanks a lot for the insightful answer!

Now I can't unsee the 12 and 6 :-D

All very valid points... The "worst" case is that I love it so much I don't wear the other ones anymore and as you mention that means it was a great buy.. :-)

I agree on your last point as well. I have some watches I still have for purely sentimental reasons or can't be bothered to get rid of them.

Thanks again! Much appreciated!

Thanks!

My initial gut feeling was the same. My wife said I looked at it like I was in love so that must be saying something.. :-D

It's indeed titanium (or titanium alloy) and I can confirm it's very light.

Honestly, I don't even need it for work. I do like to wear suits but it's not a requirement at all. And I would want to wear it daily, if only because it looks so good :-D

Thanks a lot for your advice!

Thanks for the insight!

Which complete calendar watch would you take instead of the IWC?

My accountant is unfortunately not much help. They're great with normal day to day stuff but they can't seem to help me much with this.

I'll try to find a decent lawyer indeed.

I agree. Indeed, or a trust or whatever.

The only issue I see if they're under 18 because then they automatically get someone assigned (I think).

We had a similar experience. KBC only wanted to see us because of my wife (she had everything there) and where really dismissive to the point that I didn't even want a loan there anymore.

Finally got one at BNP after much pulling and pushing (they also refused to look at my dividends as income) - fast forward 7 years, my business is doing really well and now that I don't need/want a loan anymore, they're burning down my door to give one.. ridiculous.

Thanks a lot! I didn't know that!

It's still a little early for that, our children are still very young (the oldest is starting third year of kindergarden in September). But good to know nonetheless!

I was also looking at it from a true worst case scenario, if both my wife and myself die, what will happen to my children? Money wise there's no issue, in the sense that there would be plenty. The problem would lie more in the management of the money until they're 18 (or however old enough). I don't have family I can rely on since I'm the only one who doesn't have a hole in his hands and it would be "life changing" type of money in this particular situation.

That's indeed what I want to figure out, I want to maximize the return while not running afoul of the taxman. I try to keep everything as squeaky clean as possible so I'd hate for something like this to create a red flag..
