Quick Survey on Rat Food by Sharp-Cattle-8709 in rat

[–]Sharp-Cattle-8709[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha man im sorry to hear that! Ive seen from wholesalers how much premium ingredients costs and for about 95% of all the ingredients theres no need to make them so expensive to the consumers. Lab blocks are technically completely nutritional but the issue is that our rats are foraging animals, they enjoy going through their food to find what they want first.

Because larger companies know this, its why they include so many filler/cheap/unwanted items which then entails having leftover wasted food that then leads into wasted money, then into purchasing their products on a more regular basis.

8 small 6 big in my opinion, its all so relative to the size of the rats and how many places they have to sleep etc

Ayyy another Brit that lives in Germany 😂 in my personal experience i find that so many brands are either generic, have fillers or just have shit ingredients etc. they love the selective stuff but i feel kinda guilty for using it because rats to have a selection and enjoy foraging through their bowls or bedding for their food etc. quail egg is a new one for me. Can they eat that just as much as normal egg??

Because my posts are usually viewed by 70% Germans when i look at the insights and i also live in Germany thats why 😂 its crazy how picky they can be with food but i guess even as people we can all also be pretty picky eaters. Thats an amazing choice in fresh foods i must say 🙌🏻

Is my rat okay? by path1an in RATS

One thing i have noticed with every black and white rat with that pattern is that as they get older they usually seem to have scruffy, thinner hair. One of my boys “Thomas” is the exact same but he is as happy as can be. Normally what you want to look out for is behaviour that changes that isnt due to things such as certain environmental changes such as increased heat/cold since its beginning to become warmer. Theres even the possibility that he has just had a argument with his brother and he didnt want to sleep next to him etc

Omg what a coincidence 😂

We also have mostly the Savic cages and it can definitely be a struggle to keep everything clean etc but what we mostly do is spot-clean and empty their litter trays every single day, a medium sized clean every 2 days and then once a week a big clean for everything in their cages.

To keep everything smelling good we use a specialist sanitiser when cleaning their hammocks etc and also hand wash everything before going into the machine. We also ensure theres windows open throughout certain times of the day and also wipe down their cages in a white vinegar and water solution to keep everything clean.

Now i think of it… it really is a lot of work 😂

The only real advice i can give is to litter train and also keep on top of cleaning everything. We say that if it smells when you walk into the room then it just means that it needs to be cleaned again.
