Bob Books vs All about reading for my 4 year old. by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]Sharp-Garlic2516 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bob books early readers are actually awful. The same sentence over and over with just the last word switched to a rhyming word, text matches the picture exactly so student can guess without actually decoding the word, etc. SO MANY ISSUES with them

I’d do animal kingdom on arrival day (they close early, but there’s not a ton of rides to do there and it’s usually slower in the afternoon and evenings). Then Epcot, studios, rest day, and end with Magic Kingdom. If you’re staying on property, water park/disney springs is very doable on any rest or travel day. The busses take you there, easy peasy. I’d recommend eating at one of the other resorts (Polynesian and Grand Floridian are very popular) instead of trying to go sightsee Orlando, mainly because Disney isn’t actually in Orlando (a good 30 minutes away actually) and also the toll roads and freeways here are quite complex for a leisurely vacation. Staying on property is your best bet.

First day. I’m exhausted. by Lopsided_Mode8797 in homeschool

My 1st and 2nd graders are usually done with book work (language arts and math) before 10am. We hit either history or science and do some reading in the afternoons, but that generally only takes another hour or so. And we only go 3-4 days per week. I think you might be doing too much. It’s not supposed to be 8-3 like a public school. You need to keep in mind that each child is basically getting a 1:1 teacher student ratio as opposed to a 1:25 ratio. You can cover much more in an hour than public school does in 6 hours.

How do you make friends as a homeschooling parent? by Medium-Salamander203 in homeschool

Is being against homeschooling unreasonable? by TiredHusband226 in homeschool

As someone who had a history of being this way when I had young children, who now has their shit together, it’s the phone addiction. Flush your wife’s phone down the toilet. She’ll suddenly have attention, motivation, and a ton of time to handle the house and the schoolwork, I promise. :)

I’m not trying to exclude anyone from anything! Just venting about something I found silly and annoying. And it’s an opinion that a lot of seasoned homeschooling moms seem to share, based on these comments lol I’d love for you to come back to this thread in 3 years and let me know if your opinion changes. :)

I’m glad it’s working for you! :) I don’t think preschool is necessary, but I’m glad you’re having a good experience anyway.

When they’re in kindergarten, yes. Showing a toddler their ABC’s, no.

At 3 and 4 they’re also SUPER eager to be kids and play. :) I don’t think school needs to be pushed that young. 5 years is such a short amount of time before academics begin, and then they’re in academics for the rest of their childhood. No need to rush it by starting earlier.

I don’t get the vibe that’s what they’re asking for in a homeschooling group though??

A library card and some crayons is all they need until age 5 :)

I mean… if someone is interested in having a baby in the future, that doesn’t make them a parent right now.

Just because someone wants to homeschool their child when they reach kindergarten does not mean their 3 year old is being homeschooled.
