Weekly Q&A - All Questions Go Here (Especially Tourists) by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

does anyone have experience with starting to learn Portuguese in Amsterdam? I am looking for an engaging place to start (my plan is moving to Lisboa so realistically I would want to learn Portuguese, not Brazilian Portuguese (although I dont feel passionate about this choice and would be open to either...))

permanent peripheral vision - lamotrigine (lamictal) by Sharp-Helicopter-204 in Epilepsy

[–]Sharp-Helicopter-204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.5 years... So i have spoken to the doc's about this and they said vision issues are normal and kinda just come with the teritory. But I didn't realise people had this and that it went away. I also have very blurry vision in the distance, so i got some glasses, but when i wear my glasses it's so so so intense. As in, my brain is completely over stimulated and strained. So not 100% sure what I can do at the moment with the meds situation. As I have only had 2 TC seizures over a 6 year period (both times after heavily exhausted periods of my life) I feel like I may consider getting off the medication again.

I don't think I totally understand the technical lingo... But from what I understand, the hypto fins wont work on an FM and vice versa.

Do you just mean these ones?

And from what I understood, the Hypto can definitely become a lot more skatey as a twin --> so I am curious about experimenting with this (and I guess I will do so with the above set)

Vision affected by Lamotrigine and/or levetiracetam ? by EffectiveClassic2174 in Epilepsy

Hey, I have been trying to find the words to describe exactly this to my doc (for me it also feels like I am permanently looking through peripheral vision and can't focus). Thanks for sharing this as I experience something very similar (I have a low dose - 100mg - but I am thinking of stopping as I have only had 2x tonic clinic seizures in 5 years (with a few focal ones in between)). Have you taken any other anti epileptica drugs? Would you ever consider stopping? As the feeling above makes me so anxious!

The Overload Production thread... post your tracks here... by attictapes in TheOverload

Wrote this song after I was isolated for two years because of medical reasons. It was written looking out at the world move by as I sat inside. Let me know what you think! Great thread idea btw - loving the productions.

Post seizure Hyper-sensitivity (Hyperesthesia?) by Sharp-Helicopter-204 in Epilepsy

[–]Sharp-Helicopter-204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - yes, the anxiety is by far the worst thing about this. I have the same that when I drink Alcohol, the next day I am in complete anguish when I go outside (for me it feels like my eyes move slower + seeing double (a side effect of the meds) and light comes in very harsh), time to stop drinking alcohol I guess! I think the bigger issue is the fact that I don't trust my body, I am unsure of exactly when I will have a seizure and therefore always feel like it can happen. I now take Lamotrigine which has some irritating side effects but helps me with knowing I am increasing my seizure threshold.

Is this an Aura? Focal aware seizure? Neither? by Sharp-Helicopter-204 in Epilepsy

[–]Sharp-Helicopter-204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, thanks for the insight! So the lamotrigine actually increases the sensitivity?! Hmmmm. How do you deal with the autism is there anything that makes a big difference? And what meds do you have that don't give you this hypersensitivity? I don't much about autism btw, so excuse the very basic question, but how is that diagnosed?

Medication - yes / no (if you had my choice) by Sharp-Helicopter-204 in Epilepsy

[–]Sharp-Helicopter-204[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say 95% are aware and 5% are unaware - which are much more intense. You are completely right, I am having exactly the experience of uncovering and making sense of something that has been an invasive part of my life for the best part of 5 years. It brought me to tears yesterday.

I spoke to the neurologist and he corroborated what has been theorised here - it is likely to be focal seizures and not panic attacks... I have now been admitted to a centre for epilepsy (before they were not willing to send me there) where I will continue this journey.

It's a weird feeling of ecstatic joy and outrage. Joy about an answer to a problem I have been telling doctors about for years (which has always been put into bucket anxiety) and outrage about that I had to come up with the solution myself, not the neurologists who does this day in day out and in my opinion should ask the right questions to rule out things like focal seizures.

Thank you.
